HBO's "The Wire" Nominated for Humanitas Prize
The Wire, the Peabody Award-winning HBO show that ended its five-season run earlier this year, has been nominated for the 2008 Humanitas Prize, an annual screenwriter's award recognizing excellence in film and television writing. The Humanitas, which, according to the organization, honors stories that "affirm the human person, probe the meaning of life, and enlighten the use of human freedom," selected the Wire episode titled "Late Editions"—written by George Pelecanos after a story by Pelecanos and series creator David Simon—from the show's fifth and final season, available now on DVD.
The awards will be handed out at the Beverly Hills Hotel on September 17. For more on the award, visit humanitasprize.org.
