Happy birthday to Lianne La Havas, who concludes a brief US run this weekend with a concert at Baltimore Soundstage tonight and a set at Commodore Barry Park in Brooklyn on Sunday, as part of Afropunk Festival. La Havas released her sophomore album, Blood, on Nonesuch in 2015. Rolling Stone declared: “The album demands, and rewards, all the attention you can give it.”

Sam Amidon performs at Sankofa's in Northamptonshire, England, tonight, as part of Shambala festival. The Guardian gave four stars to Amidon’s latest album, 2017’s The Following Mountain, calling it a “deeply rewarding” listen.

Rhiannon Giddens and multi-instrumentalist Francesco Turrisi bring music from their album there is no Other to Fayetteville Town Center in Arkansas on Saturday, for Fayetteville Roots Festival.

there is no Other, released earlier this year on Nonesuch, “is acoustic roots music at its most glorious," exclaims Uncut, “and Giddens is fast becoming the genre’s brightest star in the firmament.” The album has made Rolling Stone’s list of The 50 Best Albums of 2019 So Far, and American Songwriter calls Giddens “one of the most important musical minds currently walking the planet.”

Lake Street Dive tours California as special guest of The Avett Brothers this weekend, with sold-out shows at the San Diego Civic Theatre tonight and Santa Barbara Bowl on Saturday.

Lake Street Dive singer-songwriter Rachael Price and composer, singer, and guitarist Vilray release their self-titled debut album, Rachael & Vilray, on October 4. Joshua Redman and the Still Dreaming quartet—drummer Dave King, bassist Scott Colley, and cornetist Ron Miles—bring music from their 2018 self-titled album, inspired by Dewey Redman's band Old and New Dreams, to Congress Saalfelden in Germany, on Sunday, for Jazzfestival Saalfelden. The Washington Post calls the group “consistently riveting.”

Nonesuch Records releases the new album Sun on Sand, on which Joshua Redman and Brooklyn Rider perform works by composer Patrick Zimmerli, with bassist Scott Colley and drummer Satoshi Takeishi, on October 4. Pre-orders include an instant download of the track “Between Dog and Wolf.”

Caroline Shaw and the vocal ensemble Roomful of Teeth perform new works commissioned as part of the American Composers Forum, as well as a selection of their own work, at Hunter Center at MASS MoCA in North Adams, Massachusetts, tonight.

Shaw’s album Orange, on which Attacca Quartet performs six of her pieces for string quartet, has been named one of “The Best Albums of 2019 (So Far)” by NPR Music. Pitchfork calls it “a wild and free-ranging collection of chamber pieces … The music of Orange exudes joy and a sense of wildness.”

    Following more than a dozen sold-out shows across the US this spring, Hurray for the Riff Raff (aka Alynda Segarra) has announced a US summer tour. Beginning in early July, a new leg of headline dates will stop in cities that have yet to experience the live show of The Past Is Still Alive, the acclaimed album that has Vulture calling Segarra “one of America’s best songwriters." Upcoming performances also include Hurray for the Riff Raff’s Red Rocks debut and other amphitheater appearances with Norah Jones, as well as a homecoming set at New Orleans Jazz Festival, a return to NYC for a free concert in Battery Park, and more to be announced.
