The Staves, who kick off a four-week tour of North America next week, release the double A side "Tired As Fuck," a previously unreleased tune, and "Train Tracks," a re-mastered version of a bonus track from their 2015 album If I Was. The former was "written in the midst of a relationship breaking down," says the trio. "Lamenting the lack of some sort of guidance, but also accepting and resigning yourself to fact that you have to soldier on. Keep going. There is no helping hand. 'Train Tracks' is the beginning of something new and how confusing and difficult that can be when you're really just as clueless as anyone! The two tracks bookend each other in that respect." You can watch a video for "Tired As Fuck" here.

The Staves, who kick off a tour of North America next week, release the double A side "Tired As Fuck" and "Train Tracks" today. The former is a fan favorite that has been part of the band’s live show for the past year, though never officially released. The latter is a re-mastered version of a bonus track featured on their critically acclaimed 2015 album, If I Was. The sisters said of the tracks, “'Tired As Fuck' was a song written in the midst of a relationship breaking down. Lamenting the lack of some sort of guidance, but also accepting and resigning yourself to fact that you have to soldier on. Keep going. There is no helping hand. 'Train Tracks' is the beginning of something new and how confusing and difficult that can be when you're really just as clueless as anyone! The two tracks bookend each other in that respect.” You can download the two songs on iTunes and the Nonesuch Store now and add them to a suitable playlist of your making on Spotify and Apple Music.

The Staves have also shared a music video for "Tired As Fuck," directed by Dan Huiting. “We fell down an Andy Warhol hole (a Warhole if you will) recently and particularly loved his series of screen tests and moving portraits,” described the band. “They're just static shots of a subject staring at the camera. It's amazing how compelling that is. Just looking at someone for 20 minutes or so. We also bought an old overhead projector and really wanted to incorporate it by projecting these weird shapes on Camilla's face.” You can watch the video below.

The Watford, England–born sisters, now based in Minneapolis—Emily (vocals, synth), Jessica (vocals, guitar, keyboards), and Camilla (vocals, guitar, ukulele) Staveley-Taylor—will embark on a 21-city North American tour beginning next Thursday, February 16. Stops include Los Angeles, Brooklyn, Boston, and Toronto. They will return to the UK in June to headline Bushstock Festival in London; additional UK dates will be announced later this month. A vinyl 7" of "Tired As Fuck" / "Train Tracks" will be available exclusively at The Staves’ North American shows. For tickets, see below or visit nonesuch.com/on-tour.

The Way Out of Easy, the first album from guitarist Jeff Parker and his long-running ETA IVtet—saxophonist Josh Johnson, bassist Anna Butterss, drummer Jay Bellerose—since their 2022 debut Mondays at the Enfield Tennis Academy, which Pitchfork named one of the Best Albums of the 2020s So Far, is out now on International Anthem / Nonesuch Records. Like that album, The Way Out of Easy comprises recordings from LA venue ETA, where Parker and the ensemble held a weekly residency for seven years. During that time, the ETA IVtet evolved from a band that played mostly standards into a group known for its transcendent, long-form journeys into innovative, groove-oriented improvised music. All four tracks on The Way Out of Easy come from a single night in 2023, providing an unfiltered view of the ensemble, fully in their element.

Composer and trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire’s honey from a winter stone is out January 17, 2025, on Nonesuch Records. The album, which Ambrose calls a “self-portrait,” features improvisational vocalist Kokayi, pianist Sam Harris, Chiquitamagic on synthesizer, drummer Justin Brown, and the Mivos Quartet. Akinmusire says, “In many respects this entire work is inspired by and is an homage to the work of the composer Julius Eastman and his organic music concept." The opening track, “muffled screams,” is out now.
