Among the 80th birthday celebrations for Steve Reich will be a week of concerts by the San Francisco Symphony (SFS) and Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas (MTT) highlighting the composer's works at Davies Symphony Hall, September 7–11, 2016, starting with the Orchestra's Opening Night Gala and culminating in an all-Reich concert featuring Kronos Quartet. The pieces to be performed during the week are Three Movements, Double Sextet, Six Marimbas, Electric Counterpoint, and WTC 9/11.

Among the upcoming 80th birthday celebrations for Steve Reich will be a week of concerts by the San Francisco Symphony (SFS) and Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas (MTT) highlighting the composer's works at Davies Symphony Hall, September 7–11, 2016, culminating with a performance including Kronos Quartet.

The week-long celebration begins with the Orchestra's Opening Night Gala on September 7 highlighted by a performance of Reich's Three Movements. Subsequent concerts on September 9–10 feature that work alongside the composer's Double Sextet performed by contemporary chamber ensemble eighth blackbird, which commissioned the piece, side-by-side with SFS musicians. Nonesuch released a recording of the Pulitzer Prize–winning Double Sextet performed by eighth blackbird in 2010.

The celebration comes to a close on September 11 with Steve Reich: An American Maverick, a special birthday celebration in honor of the composer's extraordinary musical contributions. Members of the SFS are joined by percussion students from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music for Reich's Six Marimbas; guitarist Derek Johnson performs Electric Counterpoint with pre-recorded audio; Kronos Quartet performs the composer's WTC 9/11, which was written specifically for the San Francisco-based string ensemble along with pre-recorded spoken voice; and frequent Reich collaborators eighth blackbird join with SFS musicians for the composer's Double Sextet. MTT conducts and hosts the evening, and Steve Reich will be in attendance.

    Composer and trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire’s honey from a winter stone is out January 17, 2025, on Nonesuch Records. The album, which Ambrose calls a “self-portrait,” features improvisational vocalist Kokayi, pianist Sam Harris, Chiquitamagic on synthesizer, drummer Justin Brown, and the Mivos Quartet. Akinmusire says, “In many respects this entire work is inspired by and is an homage to the work of the composer Julius Eastman and his organic music concept."     Nonesuch releases a deluxe edition of Wilco’s 2004 Grammy Award–winning album A Ghost Is Born on February 7, 2025. The box set comprises either nine vinyl LPs and four CDs or nine CDs—including the original album, alternates, outtakes, and demos, charting the making of A Ghost Is Born—plus the complete 2004 concert recording from Boston’s Wang Center and the band’s “fundamentals” workshop sessions. It includes sixty-five previously unreleased music tracks as well as a forty-eight-page hardcover book with previously unpublished photos and a new liner note by Grammy-winning writer Bob Mehr. An alternate version of “Handshake Drugs,” recorded during the studio sessions at New York’s Sear Sound, twenty-one years ago this month, is out now. There will also be a new vinyl pressing of the original album in a two-disc package, and a two-CD expanded version of the original album with bonus track highlights from the full deluxe edition repertoire. The two-CD version will also be available on streaming services worldwide.
