Conor Oberst has shared the music video for "Till St. Dymphna Kicks Us Out," from his forthcoming album, Salutations. The video was filmed at the very same bar in Manhattan's East Village that inspired the song. Its director, Greg Marinaccio, also directed Oberst's "You Are Your Mother's Child" video. You can watch "Till St. Dymphna Kicks Us Out" below and download the track (along with three others) now when you pre-order Salutations on iTunes and in the Nonesuch Store.
Salutations, due March 17 on Nonesuch Records, is a companion piece to 2016's lauded Ruminations. When Oberst wrote and created the original, entirely solo versions of the songs on Ruminations he intended to ultimately record them with a full band. In the midst of putting together that band, which paired upstate New York's The Felice Brothers with the legendary drummer Jim Keltner, the passionate response Oberst was getting to those original recordings encouraged him to release the songs as-is, in their original sparse form, as his seventh solo album, Ruminations (released in October 2016).
Salutations was recorded at Shangri-la Studios in Malibu and co-produced with Keltner and long-time musical compadre Andy LeMaster (engineer). Guest contributions come courtesy of Jim James, Blake Mills, Maria Taylor, M Ward, Gillian Welch, Gus Seyffert, Pearl Charles, Nathaniel Walcott, and Jonathan Wilson. Salutations includes full-band versions of the ten songs from Ruminations, plus seven additional songs, some from an additional session at Five Star Studios in Echo Park in fall 2016.
Oberst, with The Felice Brothers as his backing band, will tour in support of Salutations beginning March 9 in his hometown of Omaha, with stops at LA's Greek Theater in May and Celebrate Brooklyn! in July (full schedule below; general on-sale for the newly added shows begins this Friday at noon). Oberst has partnered with Plus 1 so that $1 from every ticket sold on US headline dates will go to Planned Parenthood and their work delivering vital reproductive health care, sex education, and information to millions of women, men, and young people in the US and worldwide. All tour dates below.
A video for "A Little Uncanny," directed by Josh Rawson (The Felice Brothers), from Salutations may be viewed here.

The Way Out of Easy, the first album from guitarist Jeff Parker and his long-running ETA IVtet—saxophonist Josh Johnson, bassist Anna Butterss, drummer Jay Bellerose—since their 2022 debut Mondays at the Enfield Tennis Academy, which Pitchfork named one of the Best Albums of the 2020s So Far, is out now on International Anthem / Nonesuch Records. Like that album, The Way Out of Easy comprises recordings from LA venue ETA, where Parker and the ensemble held a weekly residency for seven years. During that time, the ETA IVtet evolved from a band that played mostly standards into a group known for its transcendent, long-form journeys into innovative, groove-oriented improvised music. All four tracks on The Way Out of Easy come from a single night in 2023, providing an unfiltered view of the ensemble, fully in their element.
The Staves' new EP Happy New Year, out today, includes three acoustic versions of tracks from their new album, All Now—"I Don't Say It, But I Feel It," "After School," and "All Now"—and a cover of The Beatles' "She's Leaving Home." Also out now: an acoustic performance video for "After School," which the duo calls "a love song to our sister Emily inspired by the bands we were listening to in the '90s. Putting on the rose-tinted glasses and embracing nostalgia."
