Randy Newman, whose new live performance CD+DVD Live in London was released earlier this week on Nonesuch, is set to make his Austin City Limits television debut when ACL, the longest-running live music television series in history, presents an episode dedicated exclusively to his work this Saturday, November 12, on PBS stations across the United States.

The set list for this Saturday's show features 17 songs from throughout Newman's career, including favorites like "Short People," "Political Science," and "You Can Leave Your Hat On," each of which he performs on his new Live in London CD+DVD as well. See below for the set list and to watch a preview of the show.

"It's been my goal for over 30 years to have Randy Newman on Austin City Limits," says the show's Executive Producer Terry Lickona, "but as I've always said, patience and persistence ultimately pays off. He thoroughly enjoyed himself, and it shows. There were literally fans in the audience in tears as he played music that has become such an important part of the American songbook."

Newman's ACL performance is a solo act with the accompaniment of a piano, letting his beloved songs speak for themselves, as they do on his other recent Nonesuch release, the Randy Newman Songbook Vol. 2. In addition to favorites from his solo career, ACL set highlights showcase his renowned work on film scores, with Newman singing "I Love to See You Smile" from the 1989 film Parenthood and a crowd-pleasing rendition of Toy Story's "You've Got a Friend in Me," which you can watch right here:

Randy Newman’s Austin City Limits episode song list includes:

  • Dixie Flyer

  • Mama Told Me Not to Come
  • Laugh and Be Happy
  • Losing You
  • Birmingham
  • Short People
  • Harps and Angels
  • I Love to See You Smile
  • You've Got a Friend in Me
