Christina Courtin's California concert schedule continues this week with performances in San Francisco and LA. Pop Matters describes the singer as "fearless, profound, and musically fascinating" and her "impressive" new album as "unlike anything else I have heard this year ... Lyrically precocious, and musically varied, Courtin presents herself as a chameleon, shifting through varied terrain from jazz to folk to country to pop and back again."

Christina Courtin's "Foreign Country," off her recent eponymous Nonesuch release, has been chosen as NPR's Song of the Day. "Courtin's self-titled debut is mercilessly charming," says NPR, "a conflation of sweet and sad that manages the neat (and difficult) trick of being endlessly effervescent without inducing tooth decay." The selected song is described as "twinkly, jaunty and blithe," one that "suggests an intriguing future for Courtin."

Christina Courtin, whose self-titled Nonesuch debut was released last month, recently spoke with Blurt magazine about the album and her many musical inspirations, from the classical music she studied at Juilliard to classic pop and rock. Altsounds says she's "one of a kind" and "would have fitted in perfectly in the New York Jazz scene of the thirties and forties," suggesting that "she could have easily shared the stage with Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald."

Christina Courtin plays the second of two shows in California this week in a set at San Francisco's Café du Nord tonight. She performed at Largo at the Coronet in LA on Tuesday, a set the Los Angeles Times dubbed "refreshingly un-ethereal." The paper's music blog explains, saying Christina "offered one of the best correctives to the ever more ubiquitous images of wispy, inscrutable hipstresses with a set of completely endearing yet really sturdy and inventive folk-pop."

Christina Courtin is set to perform at L.A.'s Largo at the Coronet tonight. The Los Angeles Times says of her recently released Nonesuch debut that it "is highly polished but still retains a sense of individuality." LAist says "you can't help but be drawn in by her expressive voice, and the 10 tracks reveal a seasoned artist. This may be her first record, but she's developed a confidence, a writing style and a playfulness that many singer/songwriters don't achieve until later in their careers." Her hometown paper, the Buffalo News says: "Like so many of the best records of its type—Joni Mitchell’s midperiod efforts come to mind, as does Norah Jones’ debut—Christina Courtin works its magic on the listener subversively, and over time."

Christina Courtin's self-titled Nonesuch debut is out now, and, the Daily Express gives it a perfect five stars. She puts "her exceptional composition skills to 10 superb songs full of emotional complexity and subtle style shifts," says the paper. Teletext says that "what makes Courtin's debut stand out is the understated variety of her vocals. As precise as k.d. lang one moment, she's as untamed as Bat for Lashes the next." The Scripps Howard News Service calls Courtin "impossibly enchanting" and the new album "intoxicating."

Today is release day for Christina Courtin's self-titled Nonesuch debut. To mark the occasion, Christina will appear on WNYC's Soundcheck to talk about the new record and perform a few songs from it. The Washington Post's Express Night Out says: "Courtin's voice is effortless adaptable, weaving in and out of the instrumentation, constantly playing with texture and volume, never particularly anxious about how it sounds, but never perfectly content, either ... It may only be her debut album, but considering her confirmed songwriting and singing abilities, Courtin already sounds like a veteran."
