Brad Mehldau’s seven-disc box set The Art of the Trio Recordings: 1996–2001 is now available on both sides of the Atlantic via Nonesuch Records, following last week's North American release and this week's European release. "[F]or five years from 1996 the Brad Mehldau Trio were playing music together that few at the time could ignore and which with The Art Of The Trio Recordings: 1996–2001 still more will arrive at," predicts Jazzwise magazine. The Trio's work is showcased "in the greatest depth possible ... all documented in one place in a carefully annotated box set with additional unreleased material."

The Black Keys' new album, El Camino, is out in just one week, and the record has already begun to receive rave reviews. The Independent gives the album a perfect five stars, calling it a "tremendous, hook-laden, all-killer-no-filler collection, by some distance the most powerful, compelling rock album of the year." MOJO also gives the album a perfect five stars, making it an "instant MOJO classic," and names it album of the month. "Magnificent," exclaims Q in its five-star review. "This is unvarnished rock, primal and exhilarating."

Gidon Kremer recently performed in Lincoln Center's White Light Festival in a program titled Homage to J.S. Bach. "Kremer's performance of the Bach Chaconne was the wonder of the night," writes The New Yorker's Alex Ross. "Herbert von Karajan once declared that Kremer was the greatest violinist alive; this still seems to be the case. His legendary reading of the Chaconne ... has grown ever deeper with age." Kremer joins the Kremerata Baltica chamber orchestra for a brief European tour starting next weekend.

k.d. lang and the Siss Boom Bang kicked off their three-week tour of Australia outside Perth on Saturday. "From the first long, soaring notes of the night she was in spectacular, pitch-perfect voice," says the West Australian. The Australian says: "To watch k.d. lang is to observe someone doing what they were surely born to do. Rarely do you see someone so at ease on stage, standing behind nothing but talent, wits and her sheer joy of performing." lang and the band give the first of six performances in Sydney on Wednesday. New York's Lincoln Center presented two groundbreaking works by Philip Glass last week, when the New York Philharmonic and the Philip Glass Ensemble performed Koyaanisqatsi and the Metropolitan Opera gave the first of seven performances of the opera Satyagraha. The New York Times calls them "two of Mr. Glass’s most compelling scores." The New York Post calls Satyagraha "a masterpiece of musical and visual art." The AP calls it "spectacular," its music "frequently ravishing." Tuesday's performance includes a pre-concert talk by composer Nico Muhly and will be broadcast live on SIRIUS XM and the Met's website.

Gidon Kremer returned to Lincoln Center in New York on Saturday for the second-annual White Light Festival, "an exploration of music’s power to illuminate our interior lives," to present a program titled Homage to J.S. Bach. The program centered around Bach's Chaconne for solo violin and included the US premiere of Silvestrov's Dedication to J.S. Bach. The New York Times calls the Bach piece "as transcendent a work as you will find." Kremer joins the Boston Symphony Orchestra this week at Boston's Symphony Hall for works by Schumann and Strauss.

Audra McDonald brought her US tour to a place where the four-time Tony Award winner is quite at home—the New York City stage—when she performed at Carnegie Hall Saturday night. The New York Times' Stephen Holden calls McDonald "a one-of-a-kind musical super-talent" who received "an unbroken wave of adoration" from the Carnegie Hall crowd. This echoes the Los Angeles Times' recent concert review, which says: "Audra McDonald is amazing ... one in a million."

Björk continues to celebrate the release of her new album, Biophilia, with the latest show in her Reykjavik residency tonight. New York magazine found her "pitch-perfect" at Sunday's show. She is the subject of a Q&A with Mashable and a feature article in the Los Angeles Times, which says that, with Biophilia, Björk "has reinvented the album into a transformative transmedia experience." The San Francisco Chronicle says she "has come up with her most compelling work in eons"; "the results are extraordinarily sumptuous and seductive." The Philadelphia Inquirer calls it "eerily beautiful."

Steve Reich was featured on NPR's Weekend Edition Sunday. In honor of the composer's 75th birthday, the program examines the work and impact of "arguably the most influential composer of his generation," whose music has "inspired generations of composers whose work can be heard in concert halls, dance clubs, and rock festivals." The composer joined the London Symphony Orchestra in concert at Barbican Hall, to which the Daily Telegraph gives a perfect five stars. Cité de la Musique in Paris continued its Reich birthday festival, Pulsations, with a performance of choreographer Karine Saporta's Notes, now available to watch online.
