Let the Soil Play Its Simple Part, an album of songs written and performed by Caroline Shaw and Sō Percussion, is out now.With Shaw on vocals and Sō filling out this new band, they developed songs in the studio, with lyrics inspired by their own wide-ranging interests: James Joyce, the Sacred Harp hymnal, a poem by Anne Carson, the Bible's Book of Ruth, the American roots tune "I'll Fly Away," ABBA's "Lay All Your Love on Me," and more. To coincide with the album's release, the artists have released a video of them performing their take on the ABBA tune; you can watch it here.

Chris Thile has released a new video of him performing "Dionysus," a song from his new solo album, Laysongs, filmed live in Brooklyn. You can watch the video, made by Benjamin Miller, here. Thile has two solo concerts in upstate New York this weekend, with more shows ahead this summer and a fall tour to come.

The Black Keys have released a new video of the band performing "Going Down South," from their new album, Delta Kream, live from Dan Auerbach's Easy Eye Sound Studio in Nashville this past spring. Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney are joined by Kenny Brown on guitar and Eric Deaton on bass, both long-time members of the bands of blues legends including R.L. Burnside and Junior Kimbrough. Caroline Shaw and Sō Percussion have released "Other Song," from their upcoming album, Let the Soil Play Its Simple Part, and a video for it by Maureen Towey. The video was shot at Rise and Root Farm, a five-acre farm in New York’s Hudson Valley rooted in social justice and run cooperatively by four owners who are women, intergenerational, multi-racial, and LGBTQ; one of the owners, Karen Washington, is featured in the video. You can watch it here. Shaw says of the track: “I had these bits of ‘Other Song,’ so I made this abstract reduction, with a verse-chorus structure and a wild build in the middle. The prompt for all of us was: what would we make in the room together if there were no single person in charge, the way a band writes in the studio?”

Stars in the House, the live-streamed series led by Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley to benefit The Actors Fund, hosted the stars of the original 2005 Broadway production of Adam Guettel's The Light in the Piazza on Friday, and a 20th anniversary celebration of the 2001 Actors Fund benefit concert performance of Dreamgirls, of which Rudetsky was the musical director, on Saturday. Emmylou Harris and Mary Chapin Carpenter came together to pay tribute to Kennedy Center Honoree Joan Baez, performing a medley of "Diamonds & Rust," "God Is God," and "We Shall Overcome," at the 43rd annual Kennedy Center Honors, which aired on CBS last night. In celebration of Pride Month, Nonesuch Records releases k.d. lang’s makeover, a new collection of classic dance remixes of some of her best-loved songs, today, including on translucent turquoise vinyl. The album brings these remixes, made between 1992 and 2000, together for the first time, and includes “Sexuality,” “Miss Chatelaine,” “Theme from The Valley of the Dolls,” “Summerfling,” and the #1 dance chart hits “Lifted By Love” and “If I Were You.” makeover’s cover art features a previously unseen 1995 portrait of lang by David LaChapelle. Also today, lang has released a video for "Sexuality (Tony Maserati Final Radio Remix)," edited by Robert Edridge-Waks from Marcus Nispel's original "Sexuality" video; you can watch it here.

The original 2013 Public Theater cast of David Byrne and Fatboy Slim's musical Here Lies Love reunited for a special episode of Stars in the House in honor of AAPI Heritage Month, guest hosted by Jose Llana, who starred as Ferdinand Marcos. Joining Llana for the episode, which benefits The Actors Fund, were Ruthie Ann Miles (Imelda), Conrad Ricamora (Aquino), Melody Butiu (Estrella), Kelvin Moon Loh (D.J.), and ensemble members Renée Albulario, Jeigh Madjus, and Maria-Christina Oliveras, as well as Jaygee Macapugay, who later assumed the role of Imelda. Laurie Anderson performed an NPR Tiny Desk (Home) Concert of music from Big Science, "the truly breathtaking breakthrough album" from this "revolutionary artist," says host Bob Boilen. She was joined, on synthesizer, by Roma Baran, who performs on and co-produced Big Science with Anderson, and Rubin Kodheli on cello to perform "Let x=x," "O Superman (For Massenet)," and an improvisation on violin and cello. You can watch it here.

Lake Street Dive was on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to perform "Same Old News," from the album, Obviously; you can watch the performance here. As Lake Street Dive's June concerts in upstate New York and New Haven will be Mike "McDuck" Olson's last shows with the band, these special dates will stream live via Mandolin. The band also has several shows this summer, including newly announced dates at SummerStage in NYC and Ravinia outside Chicago.

Burnside's "Going Down South," from Mississippi at Jimmy Duck Holmes’ Blue Front Café, the oldest active juke joint in America; on Later... with Jools Holland, they performed "Going Down South" from Dan Auerbach’s Easy Eye Sound studio in Nashville, where they recorded the album.
