Emmylou Harris was the musical guest on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night on NBC. She and her band performed a rocking rendition of "New Orleans," off her new album, Hard Bargain. Prefix calls it "an upbeat country-rock track that’s well suited to Harris’ vocal style, which has retained the edge she’s possessed since emerging onto the music scene in the early 1970s." Muscle Shoals Sound, the historic Alabama studio where The Black Keys recorded their Grammy-winning album Brothers, is featured in a new video from Oxford American's SoLost series. As with countless musicians who’d ventured there before them, The Black Keys were attracted to the legacy—and the atmosphere—of the studio. Laurie Anderson recently participated in a lecture/performance and discussion at the Venice Biennale titled "A Short Talk on Places." She also sat down for a video interview on a wide range of subjects, including technology, music, the cultural ties that connect the world's cities, the art scene, the nature of dreams, the power of language, and her husband, Lou Reed. The video for Ben Folds's "Working Day," off Lonely Avenue, his 2010 collaborative album with Nick Hornby, has premiered on the Huffington Post, which also features an interview with Folds. The video showcases audiences recorded during his January tour across the US Midwest, each given specific parts. The arrangement was later weaved together to create a 14,000 voice choir seen and heard on the video. Watch it here. Folds launches his US summer tour tomorrow in Tulsa.

The Cincinnati Opera performs John Adams's opera A Flowering Tree tonight and Saturday, reuniting the world-premiere cast featured on the Nonesuch recording of the opera: soprano Jessica Rivera, tenor Russell Thomas, and bass-baritone Eric Owens. The Cincinnati Enquirer says "Adams takes a striking new path" with A Flowering Tree, "combining an exotic story of magical transformation and love with ravishing music ... lyrical, lush and dreamlike." Wanda Jackson's performance on NPR's Mountain Stage will be broadcast on public radio stations across the US this weekend. Jackson's set includes several songs from her Jack White-produced album The Party Ain't Over. Also featured on the program are Jimmie Dale Gilmore & the Wronglers, Joe Ely, the New Rope String Band, and Carolyn Wonderland. Chris Thile and Michael Daves' next live duo set is slated for mid-July at the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival, with Thile touring with Punch Brothers until then. The 38th Annual Telluride Bluegrass Festival took place this past weekend, and among the highlights were "the dove-like voice of country legend Emmylou Harris and the sharp wit and ridiculous talent of Chris Thile," says Reverb; a "pick-off" launched by The Decemberists with Béla Fleck, Jerry Douglas, and Punch Brothers' Noam Pikelny; and a Punch Brothers set that provided what Reverb calls "one of the fest’s most charming musical moments." James Farm kicked off its four-night residency at New York's Jazz Standard last night with two stellar sets featuring songs from their self-titled debut album. The band stopped by WNYC's Soundcheck earlier this week to discuss and perform songs off the new record. Pat Metheny's new album, What's It All About, includes Metheny's solo-guitar take on the Beatles classic "And I Love Her." The video, which premiered on MSN yesterday, is now available here. "The Beatles were huge for me," Metheny says. "Without them, I don't know if I even would have become a musician or a guitar player ... It is kind of impossible to imagine doing a record like this without including at least one Beatles song."

The Low Anthem recently performed a session for Crawdaddy! featuring songs from their latest Nonesuch release, Smart Flesh. You can watch the performances here. "There’s a reason why Low Anthem is getting a lot of buzz these days," says Crawdaddy! The band's "vintage sensibility is lifted by pristine vocals and a collaborative energy among them that draws from their respective strengths."
