Lake Street Dive is on the latest episode of eTown. All five band members talk with host Nick Forster, who calls Lake Street Dive "one of our favorite bands," about their new album, Obviously, and share some songs off the record. Congratulations to Lake Street Dive, whose new album, Obviously, debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard Album Chart, No. 1 on the Americana/Folk Chart, and No. 2 on both the Current Rock Albums and Current Alternative Albums charts. Let the Soil Play Its Simple Part, an album of songs written and performed by Caroline Shaw and Sō Percussion, is due June 25 on Nonesuch Records. With Shaw on vocals and Sō filling out this new band, they developed songs in the studio, with lyrics inspired by their own wide-ranging interests: James Joyce, the Sacred Harp hymnal, a poem by Anne Carson, the Bible’s Book of Ruth, the American roots tune “I’ll Fly Away,” the pop music of ABBA, and more. k.d. lang’s makeover, a new collection of classic dance remixes of some of her best-loved songs, is due May 28 on Nonesuch Records, including on translucent turquoise vinyl. The album brings these remixes, made between 1992 and 2000, together for the first time, and includes “Sexuality,” “Miss Chatelaine,” “Theme from The Valley of the Dolls,” “Summerfling,” and the #1 dance chart hits “Lifted By Love” and “If I Were You.” makeover’s cover art features a previously unseen 1995 portrait of lang by David LaChapelle. Nonesuch Store pre-orders include an instant download of “Miss Chatelaine (St. Tropez Mix),” the video for which can be seen here; an exclusive, limited-edition print of the album cover signed by lang; and a paper doll PDF set, designed by a fan, Katja Virtanen, to print out at home, featuring iconic looks from throughout her career.

Laurie Anderson and Timo Andres spoke with Nonesuch Chairman Emeritus Bob Hurwitz for Ojai Music Festival's Virtual Ojai Talks, which you can watch here. The conversation centers on I Still Play, the 2020 album of new solo piano works by artists who have recorded for Nonesuch, written in honor of Hurwitz: Anderson, Andres, John Adams, Louis Andriessen, Donnacha Dennehy, Philip Glass, Nico Muhly, Brad Mehldau, Steve Reich, Pat Metheny, and Randy Newman. Andres will perform from I Still Play at the 2021 Ojai Music Festival, of which John Adams is Music Director.

Lake Street Dive were on WNYC's Soundcheck to talk with host John Schaefer about their new album, Obviously, and perform three songs from it: "Same Old News," "Being a Woman," and "Hypotheticals." Lake Street Dive continued the celebrations surrounding the release of its new album, Obviously, with a performance for CBS This Morning's Saturday Sessions today. The band performed three songs from the new album: "Hypotheticals," "Nobody's Stopping You Now," and "Being a Woman." You can watch all three here.

Rhiannon Giddens has released "Waterbound," a second track from her upcoming album with Francesco Turrisi, They’re Calling Me Home, out April 9. The song is a traditional fiddle tune first recorded in the 1920s that includes the refrain, "Waterbound, and I can't get home, down to North Carolina," capturing a central theme of the new album: longing for the comfort of home and family in this time of prolonged isolation. The video, which you can watch here, was filmed in Ireland and includes footage from the recording session that took place in a small studio on a working farm outside Dublin. The song and video also feature Congolese guitarist Niwel Tsumbu. Giddens says, “‘Waterbound’ is a song I learned a long time ago and it brings me forcefully home to North Carolina when I sing it, and considering that I am, indeed waterbound, and have been for a long time, it's a rare moment when a folk song represents exactly my situation in time.”

Joachim Cooder was joined by his father, Ry Cooder, for a performance streamed from the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles on Saturday. They performed songs from Joachim Cooder's Nonesuch Records debut album, Over That Road I'm Bound. "My hope for tonight's performance is: we do something maybe that we've never done before," he says. "I like to let things take their own course and have each show be a little different. So I would like all my things to work and have everybody see something that they haven't seen somewhere else." Lake Street Dive celebrated the 50th anniversary of Carole King's album Tapestry last month with a performance from band members Rachael Price, Bridget Kearney, and Akie Bermiss of the album track "So Far Away" for Variety magazine. King replied on Twitter: "Love this!" You can now watch it here.

"Green," the haunting closing theme from the critically acclaimed and award winning film Sound of Metal that is written and performed by the film’s co-writer and composer Abraham Marder and produced by Thomas Bartlett, is out now on Nonesuch Records; an accompanying video can be seen here. “Green” is one of the fifteen songs on The Academy Awards shortlist for Best Original Song. A full motion picture soundtrack will also be released by Nonesuch later this year; details will be announced shortly. Sound of Metal, directed by Darius Marder and co-written by Darius and Abraham Marder, tells the story of Ruben, played by Riz Ahmed, an iterant punk-metal drummer who begins to unravel when he suddenly loses his hearing and identity.
