Fatoumata Diawara makes her North American recording debut with today's release of the digital EP Kanou. Inspired by Wassoulou tradition, jazz, and blues, Diawara has created her own unique contemporary folk sound, giving a distinctly African spin to the concept of the female singer-songwriter. "Like her mentor [Oumou] Sangaré," says the Financial Times, "Diawara combines feminist social conscience with effortless melodic charm." The Kanou digital EP includes four tracks plus the video for the song "Bissa." Watch the video here.

Björk continues to unveil Biophilia with the release of the video for "Moon," the latest single off the forthcoming album, due out October 11. The video was directed, produced, and art directed by Björk, Inez and Vinoodh, M/M Paris, and James Merry. Watch the video here. James Farm—the collaborative band featuring Joshua Redman, Aaron Parks, Matt Penman, and Eric Harland—released its self-titled debut album earlier this year on Nonesuch, followed by several live performances that included a four-night residency at New York's Jazz Standard. As James Farm hits the road again, launching the next leg of its tour this Friday at the Monterey Jazz Festival, where Redman is artist-in-residence, the band has unveiled three videos from the Jazz Standard residency. Björk's forthcoming album, Biophilia, due out October 11, is featured in the latest episode of NPR's All Songs Considered, the show's Fall Music Preview. The show's contributors "talk about some of the releases they're most looking forward to coming out this fall." Host Bob Boilen offers Björk's latest single, "Moon," to the Fall Preview mix. "There's no one that makes music like this," says Boilen. "I'm so glad that there is a Björk in this world." Watch a preview video of the "Moon" app here.

Emmylou Harris joined Daniel Lanois and Friends in concert at the inaugural Harvest Picnic in Dundas, Ontario, last weekend, contributing to its "memorable moments" (Hamilton Spectator). While much of the set focused on Wrecking Ball, her 1995 Lanois-produced album, it also included songs from her new album, Hard Bargain. Harris recently stopped by the Rolling Stone offices to perform a couple of songs off the album and to discuss her collaborations with Levon Helm and Gram Parsons. It was 10 years ago this week that Laurie Anderson made her Nonesuch Records debut with the release of Life on a String. On the album, Anderson returned to playing violin on record for the first time since her debut album, Big Science, and featured guest turns from Lou Reed, Bill Frisell, Van Dyke Parks, and Dr. John, among others. In conjunction with its release in 2011, Nonesuch commissioned filmmaker Steve Lippman, aka FLIP, to create a short film showcasing songs from the album; the film went on to screen as an official selection at film festivals around the world. Chris Thile and Michael Daves, while in Newport for what NPR called a "sizzling set" at the Newport Folk Festival last month, took some time out to perform two songs for Paste—"Roll in My Sweet Baby's Arms," off their album Sleep with One Eye Open, and another traditional tune, "Darlin' Corey"—now available to watch in the latest issue of Paste's online mPlayer. Thile and Daves are on the road again next month, touring the Midwest, UK, and Ireland, following Thile's current tour with Punch Brothers.

The Carolina Chocolate Drops follow last weekend's performance at the Newport Folk Festival, which NPR's Ann Powers included among her "Newport favorites," with an opening set for Bob Dylan in Ohio tonight. Says Powers: "Bridging the false divides separating blues from folk from country, this North Carolina band also doesn't hesitate to see the folk in the present day." While in Newport, the Chocolate Drops took some time to record a three-song set for Sleepover Shows. "Let’s just put it out there: The Carolina Chocolate Drops are the reason the Newport Folk Festival exists," asserts Sleepover Shows. Watch the set here.

Björk continues to unveil Biophilia with today’s premiere of the music video for the song "Crystalline" from groundbreaking director and longtime Björk collaborator Michel Gondry. Watch it here. Also available today in the Nonesuch Store is the first of four 12" vinyl releases, all part of The Crystalline Series featuring variations on music from Biophilia by Serban Ghenea, Matthew Herbert, and Omar Souleyman. All five physical versions of the Biophilia album are available to pre-order in the Nonesuch Store, including the custom-made Biophilia Manual and Ultimate Edition.

The video for the title track to Philip Selway's forthcoming EP Running Blind, directed by Rupert Style and featuring a live session of the song, has received its Pitchfork premiere. The video premiered on NME in the UK, where the EP was just released on Bella Union. It will be included with the digital EP out on Nonesuch in August. Watch the video here.
