The Barbican in London has revealed the complete program for Reverberations: The Influence of Steve Reich, a two-day celebration of his music and his influence on generations of musicians, May 7 and 8. Highlights include performances of all the new music he has written since the Barbican celebrated his 70th birthday in October 2006, including Double Sextet, 2x5, and WTC 9/11, performed by Kronos Quartet. Steve Reich's 75th birthday is still just under a year away (October 2011), but the Barbican in London has just put the finishing touches on plans to celebrate with a full weekend of the composer's music this spring. The Barbican has now revealed the complete program of events for Reverberations: The Influence of Steve Reich, taking place in six sessions over two days, May 7 and 8, at the Barbican and LSO St Luke’s.

Highlights include performances of all the new music that Steve Reich has written since the Barbican celebrated his 70th birthday in October 2006, including the European premiere of his new string quartet WTC 9/11, written for and performed by Kronos Quartet; the UK premiere of his Mallet Quartet by the Amadinda Quartet; and the UK premiere of the Pulitzer Prize-winning piece Double Sextet by eighth blackbird and the London premiere of 2x5 by Bang on a Can, both pieces featured on Reich's latest Nonesuch release and both to be performed entirely live without tape in May.

The weekend will also include performances of other classic Reich works, like Drumming (Part One) and Music for Pieces of Wood, as well as works by other composers like Michael Gordon and Louis Andriessen. Bang on a Can will give the UK premiere of Andriessen's Life and the BBC Symphony Orchestra will give the world premiere of his suite from his opera Rosa.

Tickets for Reverberations: The Influences of Steve Reich go on sale next Friday, November 26, at barbican.org.uk; weekend passes will be available.

Just days before the Barbican celebration gets under way, New York City will have a chance to hear some of these pieces and performers on April 30, when Carnegie Hall presents Music of Steve Reich, featuring performances from Kronos Quartet, Bang on a Can All-Stars with Glenn Kotche, eighth blackbird, and So Percussion. The all-Reich program includes Double Sextet and the New York premieres of Mallet Quartet, WTC 9/11, and 2x5. Tickets are on sale now at carnegiehall.org.

American Railroad, the new album from the Silkroad Ensemble with Rhiannon Giddens, is out now. It is the culmination of four years of research, collaboration, and music-making, having brought Silkroad artists all across the US to uncover and uplift stories of those who built the transcontinental railroad and connecting railways across North America. "The result is a tapestry of stories, traditions, and music that have shaped our multifaceted cultural identity, and that must be heard and recognized," Giddens says. Also out now are a performance video of the track "Mahk Jchi" and the first episode of the American Railroad podcast series. The US fall tour continues to November 23.
