With just over four weeks left until election day in the United States, November 4, a number of Nonesuch Records artists will be participating in some very special campaign events in the coming days.

This Monday, October 6, k.d. lang will perform at an intimate fund-raising event for Senator Obama in the New York City home of longtime Democratic supporters who hosted a similar event with Stephen Sondheim and Barbara Cook for the 2004 Presidential election. Democratic Vice Presidential nominee, Senator Joseph Biden, is scheduled to appear at this very special event, which will be catered by renowned chef, author, and co-owner of the restaurant Chez Panisse, Alice Waters.

The following evening, New York plays host to another stellar Obama/Biden fund-raising event featuring two artists with strong Nonesuch ties: composer Ricky Ian Gordon and Tony Award–winning actress Victoria Clark. Gordon's 2001 Nonesuch collection, Bright Eyed Joy, included performances by Audra McDonald, Dawn Upshaw, and Adam Guettel, and his songs were featured prominently on McDonald's Nonesuch debut, Way Back to Paradise; Clark starred in Guettel's Tony Award–winning play The Light in the Piazza and its Nonesuch cast recording. The two will perform at the West Village home of television producer Tom Fontana (Homicide, Oz) in conjunction with esteemed members of the nonprofit art, health, housing, and human services community. Next Friday, October 10, also in New York, pianist Brad Mehldau and mandolinist Chris Thile come together for a unique benefit concert for Obama, presented by the Wordless Music series at Le Poisson Rouge in Greenwich Village. In keeping with the cross-genre spirit of the series, Mehldau will perform his first-ever solo recital devoted to classical composers, with music of Bach and Brahms, and select compositions of his own. Thile takes time out of his tour with bassist Edgar Meyer to perform works by Bach as well as his own. Seating is extremely limited; doors open at 10:30 PM and the concert begins promptly at 11 PM.
