Dr. John is joined by The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach, the producer of his new album, Locked Down, and the band behind the new album for the centerpiece of his three-week Insides Out residency at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM): the premiere of music from Locked Down. Following last night's premiere, they give two more performances at BAM's Howard Gilman Opera House tonight and Saturday. Locked Down was released this week to great acclaim. The Los Angeles Times calls it "something magical, the embodiment of everything he’s done but pushed in a clear new direction." The Boston Globe says, "It's Dr. John in full splendor." The Guardian calls it "terrific."
Dr. John's BAM residency, which began last week with a tribute to Louis Armstrong, concludes next week with Funky But It’s Nu Awlins: three nights of New Orleans funk featuring key players from the Crescent City, including Irma Thomas, Ivan Neville, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, and more.

John Adams leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic in Philip Glass's Symphony No. 9 at Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles tonight and Saturday night, following last night's West Coast premiere. Also on the program are Pärt's Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten and Adams's own Violin Concerto (1993), with violinist Leila Josefowicz. Each concert will be preceded by an Upbeat Live pre-concert talk by Chad Smith, the LA Philharmonic Vice President of Artistic Planning, with Glass joining in for tonight's talk. Nonesuch released the first recording of Adams's Violin Concerto in 1996, featuring Gidon Kremer. Josefowicz performs on the first recording of Adams's Road Movies, from 2004.

Björk brings Biophilia to Buenos Aires for two performances at Centro Municipal de Exposiciones, where she performs tonight and again on Monday. Next weekend, she remains in Buenos Aires and moves the show to Club de Gimnasia y Esgrima (GEBA).

The Black Keys' 2010 performance on Austin City Limits, featuring music from their 2010 Grammy Award-winning album Brothers, will receive an encore broadcast on PBS stations across the US this weekend. Carolina Chocolate Drops take their North American tour to California for three stops this weekend with special guest David Wax Museum. They make their first stop in the state at at UCLA's Royce Hall, followed by shows at Slim’s in San Francisco on Saturday and at the Mystic Theater in Petaluma on Sunday.
The Los Angeles Times, previewing tonight's show, says the band's "searing takes on instrumental and vocal standards are virtuosic, and their between-song banter is as witty as it is enlightening."

Joshua Redman and Brad Mehldau launched a duo tour of North America last night with a concert at Detroit's Orchestra Hall. The tour continues with three shows this weekend: at the Trustees Theatre in Savannah, Georgia, for the Savannah Music Festival tonight, followed by two nights at Jazz at the Bistro in St. Louis Saturday and Sunday. Dawn Upshaw gives a recital at Emory University’s Schwartz Center for Performing Arts in Atlanta tonight. The program includes works by Ives, Debussy, Schumann, and William Bolcom. Yesterday, vocal students at Emory were given the unique opportunity to be critiqued by Upshaw and Emory’s Distinguished Artist in Residence, Robert Spano, director of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
