Robert Plant, who continues his sold-out tour of the United Kingdom and Ireland with the Sensational Space Shifters, is the guest on the latest episode of Sound Opinions from Chicago public radio station WBEZ. Plant talks with hosts Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot about his new album, lullaby and... The Ceaseless Roar—which MOJO has just named one of the Best Albums of 2014—and the journey that brought him back to his roots on the Welsh border towns of England.

"From his days as the singer with Led Zeppelin, Plant is one of the most recognizable faces and voices in music history," says DeRogatis. "Since Zep ended in 1980 with the death of drummer John Bonham, he hasn't stopped. Plant's solo career is one that's been defined by musical experimentation."

Closer to home, Plant recently sat down with The Quietus's Julian Marszalek to discuss the new album, which Marszalek calls "his most fully realized solo album to date ... a superb melting pot of influences," and so much more.

"This is music that celebrates all manner of possibilities and directions as well being the sound of an artist happy within in his own skin as he faces up to ageing and mortality, love and loss and all points in between on the emotional compass," says Marszalek of lullaby and... The Ceaseless Roar. "Rather than re-tread old ground, Plant is forging ever forward while still retaining the exploratory vision that made his former alma mater such a unique proposition."

And fans in the US can tune in to Austin City Limits on PBS this Saturday to see Plant join frequent collaborator Patty Griffin in blended harmony for a beautiful rendition of her hit song "Ohio." It's part of the show's special one-hour episode featuring performance highlights from this year’s Americana Honors & Awards ceremony, held at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium in September.

To pick up a copy of lullaby and… The Ceaseless Roar, head to iTunes or the Nonesuch Store, where CD and vinyl orders include a free MP3 download of the complete album at checkout.

The Way Out of Easy, the first album from guitarist Jeff Parker and his long-running ETA IVtet—saxophonist Josh Johnson, bassist Anna Butterss, drummer Jay Bellerose—since their 2022 debut Mondays at the Enfield Tennis Academy, which Pitchfork named one of the Best Albums of the 2020s So Far, is out now on International Anthem / Nonesuch Records. Like that album, The Way Out of Easy comprises recordings from LA venue ETA, where Parker and the ensemble held a weekly residency for seven years. During that time, the ETA IVtet evolved from a band that played mostly standards into a group known for its transcendent, long-form journeys into innovative, groove-oriented improvised music. All four tracks on The Way Out of Easy come from a single night in 2023, providing an unfiltered view of the ensemble, fully in their element.

The Staves' new EP Happy New Year, out today, includes three acoustic versions of tracks from their new album, All Now—"I Don't Say It, But I Feel It," "After School," and "All Now"—and a cover of The Beatles' "She's Leaving Home." Also out now: an acoustic performance video for "After School," which the duo calls "a love song to our sister Emily inspired by the bands we were listening to in the '90s. Putting on the rose-tinted glasses and embracing nostalgia."
