Nonesuch released the soundtrack to the Warner Independent Pictures film A Very Long Engagement, directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and starring Audrey Tautou, on December 7, 2004. The soundtrack’s orchestral score is by Angelo Badalamenti and is conducted by Phil Marshall.

A Very Long Engagement (Un long dimanche de fiançailles) reunites Jeunet and Tautou, who last worked together on the highly popular 2001 film Amélie. A love story set during World War I, A Very Long Engagement is based on the Sebastien Japrisot novel by the same name. The film begins at the close of the war, when Mathilde (Tatou) receives word that her fiancé has been court-martialed and forced into the no-man’s land between the French and German lines to almost certainly die. Unwilling to accept that her lover is lost to her forever, Mathilde embarks on an investigation. In her quest to discover his fate, she learns of the horrors of war and the marks it leaves on those whose lives it has touched.
