Alarm Will Sound, the 20-member chamber group that released its acclaimed Nonesuch label debut, a/rhythmia, last September, is poised to make its London debut at Wilton's Music Hall tonight. The ensemble will perform its groundbreaking arrangements of electronica by Aphex Twin and Autechre, and the Beatles' iconic experimental tape work, Revolution 9, alongside the epic expressionism of John Orfe's Chamber Symphony.
Alarm Will Sound will also perform at the Barbican tomorrow night with David Longstreth’s experimental rock project Dirty Projectors. For the first half of this concert, both bands will perform Dirty Projectors' 2005 The Getty Address in its entirety, the work's European premiere. In the second half of the concert Dirty Projectors will play a selection of songs from their celebrated 2009 Bitte Orca album. This follows the groups' highly successful premieres of the program at Lincoln Center's Allen Room in New York City and at Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles earlier this year.
The London concerts are part of the London Blaze festival, which runs through July 31 and also includes performances from Caetano Veloso, Youssou N'Dour, Taraf de Haïdouks, and Kronos Quartet with Philip Glass. You can also learn more about Blaze in the festival's first podcast here; Alarm Will Sound's artistic director, Alan Pierson, and its managing director, composer Gavin Chuck, talk about the group's involvement starting at about 9:40 minutes in.
