Allen Toussaint kicks off fall with six solo sets supporting Neil Young. Four of these dates are Gulf Coast benefit shows, for which Young has teamed up with Tyson Foods to fight hunger in Gulf Coast communities affected by the oil spill. Young is asking concertgoers to bring non-perishable food items to the concerts. All donations will be given to the Bay Area Food Bank, which serves communities in Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi.

As summer officially turns to fall this week, Allen Toussaint's fall tour kicks off in a big way with six solo sets supporting Neil Young. Four of these dates (tonight and September 25, 26, and 28) are Gulf Coast benefit shows, for which Young has teamed up with Tyson Foods to fight hunger in Gulf Coast communities affected by the oil spill. Tyson will donate 100,000 pounds of chicken, and Young is asking concertgoers to bring non-perishable food items to the concerts. All donations will be given to the Bay Area Food Bank, which serves communities in Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi. In addition, all proceeds from limited-edition Neil Young shirts, available only at the Gulf concerts, will go to help the relief effort.

“Millions of people who live along the Gulf Coast struggle with hunger and the economic impact of the oil spill has only made matters worse,” Young has said. “I appreciate the willingness of John Tyson and his company to get involved by helping the regional food bank help feed those in need. We both encourage concertgoers to spend money locally and support local business.”

American Railroad, the new album from the Silkroad Ensemble with Rhiannon Giddens, is out now. It is the culmination of four years of research, collaboration, and music-making, having brought Silkroad artists all across the US to uncover and uplift stories of those who built the transcontinental railroad and connecting railways across North America. "The result is a tapestry of stories, traditions, and music that have shaped our multifaceted cultural identity, and that must be heard and recognized," Giddens says. Also out now are a performance video of the track "Mahk Jchi" and the first episode of the American Railroad podcast series. The US fall tour continues to November 23.
