Ben Folds, who is set to bring the music of his Nonesuch album Lonely Avenue, featuring lyrics by Nick Hornby, to Australia, Indonesia, Japan, and South Korea starting next month, has just announced several new summer tour dates in the US, including performances in Tulsa, Kansas City, Salt Lake City, Tucson, Tempe, Anaheim, San Francisco, Birmingham, and Minneapolis. In addition to these headlining shows, Folds will perform at the XPoNential Music Festival, which will take place in Philadelphia's Wiggins Park July 22–24, and, as was recently noted in the Nonesuch Journal, will perform at the inaugural Dave Matthew Band Caravan at Chicago's Lakeside on July 9.

Tickets for the newly announced headlining summer shows are now available through a pre-sale for fans at benfolds.com. See the currently scheduled tour dates below, and for more information and ticket links, visit nonesuch.com/on-tour.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch describes Folds's show at The National in Richmond, Virginia, last week as "an interactive celebration between artist and fan," at which Folds fashioned his set list from requests fans had submitted via paper airplane. "Somewhere among the satire of Tom Lehrer, the wise-acre character studies of Randy Newman and the pop of Nilsson," writes reviewer Hays Davis, "Folds has managed to find an identity of his own that still connects with a Richmond audience that showed its appreciation on airborne paper." Folds recently spent some time in his Nashville studio working on his rendition of Ke$ha's "Sleazy," a tour set favorite, and has donated it to Download to Donate: Tsunami Relief to support Japan relief efforts. To access the song and other music, donate $10 at japan.downloadtodonate.org.

This coming Monday, April 25, a week after Marathon Monday in Boston, Folds will join OK Go's Damian Kulash, Amanda Palmer, and author Neil Gaiman for an eight-hour songwriting and recording marathon at Berklee College of Music in Boston and release them 10 hours later during the Rethink Music conference. The collaboration will be broadcast live from the recording studio at rethink-music.com. The album will be released through bandcamp.com; proceeds from the first week of downloads will benefit Berklee City Music, which provides free music education to underserved teens.

On Tuesday, April 26, Folds, Kulash, Palmer, and Gaiman will give a presentation on the recording project at 10:40 AM at Rethink Music, and perform a private concert for conference registrants at 8 PM at the Berklee Performance Center. For more information, visit rethink-music.com.
