This fall, Ben Folds will participate in the National Geographic Live series Music on ... Photography, which will take Washington, DC, audiences backstage and beyond the microphone. The four-part series, taking place in Grosvenor Auditorium at the National Geographic Society's Washington headquarters, will include conversations with Folds, Neko Case, and Andy Summers, and accomplished music photographer Danny Clinch, as they present their photographs and favorite stories from behind the lens. Moderating the richly illustrated discussions will be Mark Seliger, contributing photographer for GQ and Vanity Fair magazines, and Juliet Blake of the National Geographic Channel. The series will kick off Wednesday, November 10, during Fotoweek DC, with Clinch.

On Friday, December 3, Folds will discuss photos he took of the flooded streets of Nashville with his camera (and camera phone) to help spread the word of the devastation. He will talk about these and other photos from his collection with moderator Seliger, a rock-and-roll photographer himself (see, for example, the cover of Natalie Merchant's recent Nonesuch release, Leave Your Sleep) and author of numerous books, including 2008's The Music Book.

Neko Case's event will take place on December 1, Andy Summers on December 4. For more information on the Music on ... Photography series and to order tickets online, visit nglive.org. Photo galleries and interviews with each of the participants will be available online on the National Geographic Music site natgeomusic.net.

American Railroad, the new album from the Silkroad Ensemble with Rhiannon Giddens, is out now. It is the culmination of four years of research, collaboration, and music-making, having brought Silkroad artists all across the US to uncover and uplift stories of those who built the transcontinental railroad and connecting railways across North America. "The result is a tapestry of stories, traditions, and music that have shaped our multifaceted cultural identity, and that must be heard and recognized," Giddens says. Also out now are a performance video of the track "Mahk Jchi" and the first episode of the American Railroad podcast series. The US fall tour continues to November 23.
