Björk’s most interdisciplinary project to date, Biophilia comprises a studio album, an app, a new website, custom-made musical instruments, live shows, and educational workshops. She has collaborated with app developers, scientists, writers, inventors, musicians, and instrument makers to create a unique multimedia exploration of the universe and its physical forces—particularly those where music, nature and technology meet. Using this theme, the album's most recent single, "Virus," is an original song as well as a new feature of the Biophilia App that examines the biological virus as part musical instrument, part sonic artwork, and part scientifically informed educational animation. The Guardian calls the Biophilia app "an an innovative and important app. But crucially, also a fun one."

In her recent interview with Pitchfork, Björk commented that "people are always going to need physicality," and to that end, she has released the "Crystalline Series": four 12" vinyl LPs, imported from the UK, featuring remixes of music from Biophilia. The series includes remixes from Grammy-winning engineer Serban Ghenea, British electronic artist Matthew Herbert (who previously collaborated with Björk on her album Vespertine), and musician Omar Souleyman. All four 12"s are available in the Nonesuch Store, where the Biophilia album is available to pre-order on vinyl and CD.

David Longstreth’s Song of the Earth, a song cycle for orchestra and voices, is due April 4. Performed by Longstreth with his band Dirty Projectors—Felicia Douglass, Maia Friedman, Olga Bell—and the Berlin-based chamber orchestra s t a r g a z e, conducted by André de Ridder, the album also features Phil Elverum (Mount Eerie), Steve Lacy, Patrick Shiroishi, Anastasia Coope, Tim Bernardes, Ayoni, Portraits of Tracy, and the author David Wallace-Wells. Longstreth says that while Song of the Earth—his biggest-yet foray into the field of concert music—"is not a ‘climate change opera,’” he wanted to “find something beyond sadness: beauty spiked with damage. Acknowledgement flecked with hope, irony, humor, rage.”
