The Black Keys spent the weekend at two of the summer's biggest festivals: the inaugural New American Music Union festival in Pittsburgh on Friday and the Virgin Mobile Fest in Baltimore on Sunday, with a stop at The NorVa in Norfolk, Virginia, in between. The Western Pennsylvania press coverage of Friday's event calls attention to the "pulverizing, purifying guitar blast blues riff from the Black Keys." Brooklyn Vegan also has dozens of great pics from the preceding night's show at Brooklyn's McCarren Park Pool.

The Black Keys spent the weekend at two of the summer's biggest festivals: the inaugural New American Music Union festival in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Friday, and the Virgin Mobile Fest in Baltimore, Maryland, on Sunday, with a stop at The NorVa in Norfolk, Virginia, in between.

Covering Friday's event for the Beaver County Times and Allegheny Times, Entertainment Editor Scott Tady felt "every pulverizing, purifying guitar blast blues riff from the Black Keys threaten to make passé all those wisecracks about Pittsburgh being stuck in the past." Even so, at least one nod to the past wasn't unwelcome when Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis, who programmed the event, compared the group's performance to Jimi Hendrix's historic set at Woodstock. Kiedis also hinted at making the Pittsburgh festival a recurring event. For complete festival coverage, visit timesonline.com.

After Saturday's set at The NorVa, Virginian-Pilot reviewer Jeff Maisey says, "The sound of fury was surprisingly impressive for a two-piece group." He credits "the primal nature of the music" with keeping the "the vocal audience engaged." Read the full review at hamptonroads.com.

Before the weekend's events, The Black Keys had played in Brooklyn's McCarren Park Pool for an estimated 4,800 fans Thursday night. You can see dozens of great pictures from the show at brooklynvegan.com. The tour continues with shows out west all week. For complete tour information, visit nonesuch.com/on-tour.
