Tuareg guitarist, singer, and songwriter Omara "Bombino" Moctar kicks off the first US leg of his tour featuring music from his new album, Nomad, released last month on Nonesuch Records. The month-long tour begins with a set at the Sasquatch! Festival in Washington state this Saturday, followed by additional stops out West, down South, across the Midwest, and into the Northeast, including headline shows, supporting slots with Gogol Bordello, festival sets at Wakarusa, Bonnaroo, and Celebrate Brooklyn!, and more.
Following several European summer festivals, Bombino and the band return to North America for the next leg of the tour in July. See below for all of the currently scheduled tour dates; for additional details and ticket links, visit nonesuch.com/on-tour.
In advance of Sunday's concert at the Star Theater in Portland, Bombino spoke with The Oregonian for a feature article available at oregonlive.com and with Willamette Week for an article at wweek.com.
Nomad, Bombino's Nonesuch debut album, was produced by The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach. NPR calls the pairing "inspired," noting that Bombino's "sound and style are alluring on a global scale." NPR says it's "a landmark in African rock music." The Los Angeles Times says "anyone who has ever appreciated a master player make magic on a Fender ... will find comfort in Bombino’s music." Rolling Stone says: "A perfect match of sound and soul, the set introduces a new guitar hero, and confirms Auerbach’s arrival as a roots-music producer to be reckoned with." The BBC calls it "utterly, utterly fantastic."
To pick up a copy of Nomad, head to the Nonesuch Store, where CD and vinyl orders include a download of the complete album at checkout.
