Pianist and composer Brad Mehldau and drummer Mark Guiliana take their electric duo, Mehliana, on a week-long tour of Asia, starting with two nights at the Java Jazz Festival in Indonesia this weekend. Mehliana—Mehldau on Fender Rhodes and vintage synthesizers and Guiliana on drums and effects—then heads to Japan for shows in Osaka, Nagoya, and Tokyo, and to Korea for a culminating show in Seoul. See below for tour details; for more, visit nonesuch.com/on-tour.
The tour features music from the duo’s debut album, Mehliana: Taming the Dragon, which Jazzwise calls “one of the best albums of 2014.” The album earned four stars from the Guardian and MusicOMH, which calls it “wholly absorbing ... an intuitive, compelling dialogue between the two musicians.” Mehldau is nominated for International Instrumentalist of the Year, Piano/Keyboards, for the album.
To pick up a copy of Mehliana: Taming the Dragon, head to iTunes or the Nonesuch Store, where CD and vinyl orders include a download of the complete album at checkout.
