This is Veloso's 11th Latin Grammy Award, following last year's win for Best Singer-Songwriter Album for the South American release of Abraçaço. Additionally, Veloso was named the Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year in 2012.

As part of his Abraçaço world tour, Caetano Veloso and his Banda Cê performed at the Nonesuch Records 50th anniversary celebrations earlier this year at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and the Barbican Centre in London, which the Times called "a perfect evening," the Guardian "exquisite." The Arts Desk wrote: "Caetano Veloso gets more extraordinary."
