Senegalese singer-songwriter Cheikh Lô has returned to North America to play a series of venues and festivals featuring music from his critically acclaimed fifth album, Jamm. This will be the first opportunity for North American audiences to hear Lô performing songs from the album since its release in July 2011. Its "easy rhythms underpin music of warmth and grace," says the Washington Post. The tour begins in Washington, DC, tonight and includes a performance at Carnegie Hall in New York, sets at the New Orleans Jazz Fest and Louisiana International Festival, and shows in St. Louis, Ann Arbor, Chapel Hill, Ithaca, Montreal, and Toronto.

Senegalese singer-songwriter Cheikh Lô has returned to North America to play a series of venues and festivals featuring music from his critically acclaimed fifth album, Jamm. This will be the first opportunity for North American audiences to hear Lô performing songs from the album since its release on Nonesuch / World Circuit Records in July 2011. The tour begins at George Washington University's Lisner Auditorium in Washington, DC, tonight and includes a performance in Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall, sets at the New Orleans Jazz Fest and Louisiana International Festival, and shows in St. Louis, Ann Arbor, Chapel Hill, Ithaca, Montreal, and Toronto. See below for all the scheduled tour dates; for additional information and ticket links, go to nonesuch.com/on-tour.

The music of Jamm is "built on murmuring guitar, chattering percussion and Lô’s honeyed voice," writes the Washington Post's Mark Jenkins in a new album review in advance of tonight's tour-opening concert in DC. The album's "easy rhythms underpin music of warmth and grace."

Jamm received critical praise in the UK and Europe with Uncut calling it the "African album of the year" and the Guardian saying "Cheikh Lô is back with an album that reconfirms his position as one of the finest, one of the most soulful singers in West Africa." On its North American release, Downbeat awarded the album four stars, describing it as Lô's "best work since the mid-90s."

A superb singer and songwriter as well as a distinctive guitarist, percussionist and drummer Lô has personalized and distilled a variety of influences from West and Central Africa, to create a style that is uniquely his own. Described as "one of the most persuasive, unique and charismatic performers on the world music circuit" (BBC) these dates give North American audiences a rare opportunity to see this remarkable performer play live.

American Railroad, the new album from the Silkroad Ensemble with Rhiannon Giddens, is out now. It is the culmination of four years of research, collaboration, and music-making, having brought Silkroad artists all across the US to uncover and uplift stories of those who built the transcontinental railroad and connecting railways across North America. "The result is a tapestry of stories, traditions, and music that have shaped our multifaceted cultural identity, and that must be heard and recognized," Giddens says. Also out now are a performance video of the track "Mahk Jchi" and the first episode of the American Railroad podcast series. The US fall tour continues to November 23.
