Mandolinist/singer Chris Thile and pianist Brad Mehldau begin a five-city US tour, performing songs from their 2017 debut duo album, Chris Thile & Brad Mehldau, at The Town Hall in New York City tonight. The duo is at the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center in Brookfield, Wisconsin, on Thursday, then heads to California this weekend for concerts at The Theatre at Ace Hotel in Los Angeles and Miner Auditorium at SFJAZZ, and a closing-night set at the Monterey Jazz Festival on Sunday.
Thile and Mehdau bring the music to Europe in November, for dates in Italy, Amsterdam, Paris, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, and a set at the Barbican for the London Jazz Festival. See below for all of the currently scheduled duo dates or visit nonesuch.com/on-tour, which also includes the new season of A Prairie Home Companion hosted by Thile.
Chris Thile & Brad Mehldau was released on Nonesuch Records in January. The artists "come from different worlds but the same species," says the New York Times. "Mr. Thile is a progressive-bluegrass pacesetter; Mr. Mehldau is the most influential jazz pianist of the last 20 years. Both are team players." The Guardian exclaims: "Two very different musicians hit a remarkable rapport on this double album."
To pick up a copy, head to iTunes, Amazon, and the Nonesuch Store, where vinyl and CD orders include a download of the complete album at checkout. It can also be heard on Spotify and Apple Music.
