Mandolinist/composer/singer/songwriter Chris Thile launches a ten-city solo tour of Europe at Alhambra in Paris tonight. The tour features songs from throughout his catalog—self-penned songs, traditional tunes, favorite covers, and works by Bach—and includes stops in Amsterdam, Edinburgh, London, Hamburg, Vienna, and more. In conjunction with his show at the National Concert Hall in Dublin, Thile takes part in an afternoon performance workshop, sharing his approach to composing and performing and offering feedback to participants. Thile has had a typically action-packed year so far, having already released a critically acclaimed duo album with Brad Mehldau ("a spine-tingling triumph," Irish Times), concluded his inaugural season as host of A Prairie Home Companion, announced a summer tour with his fellow Punch Brothers, and revealed details of an album of Bach Trios with cellist Yo-Yo Ma and bassist Edgar Meyer, due April 7 and available to pre-order now, with trio tour dates to follow.
