The original cast recording of David Byrne and Fatboy Slim’s Here Lies Love is “thought-provoking pop-laden fun,” says Broadway World. "With the range of musical styles encapsulated on the recording," says reviewer David Clark, "every track sounds fresh and original. Progressing through the dual-disc album, the listener is kept guessing as to what will come next and is constantly and pleasantly surprised ... Here Lies Love is one of the best albums I’ve had the chance to experience since I began reviewing music for BroadwayWorld.”

David Byrne and Fatboy Slim’s Here Lies Love, the original cast recording of which was released on Nonesuch earlier this year, premiered at New York’s Public Theater in April of last year and returned to the Public this spring. In a new review of the cast album, Broadway World calls it “thought-provoking pop-laden fun.”

The album, featuring the original Public Theater cast, is "filled with beats that make you want to dance along with the music," says Broadway World’s chief theater recordings critic David Clarke. "With the range of musical styles encapsulated on the recording, every track sounds fresh and original. Progressing through the dual-disc album, the listener is kept guessing as to what will come next and is constantly and pleasantly surprised.” Clarke declares: “Here Lies Love is one of the best albums I’ve had the chance to experience since I began reviewing music for BroadwayWorld.”

In the current production, as on the cast recording, Ruthie Ann Miles, whose "gorgeous vocalizations" Clarke cites in his review, plays Imelda Marcos, whose love for disco and club music served as the inspiration for the musical, telling the story of Filipina First Lady Imelda Marcos, retracing her meteoric rise to power and subsequent descent into infamy and disgrace at the end of the People Power Revolution.

"Music is a powerful tool. In an instant, it can change your mood, your perspective, or your life," Stacey Abrams says on her Crooked Media podcast, Assembly Required, introducing her conversation with Rhiannon Giddens. "No matter the motivation, music is an outlet, a force that builds us up or keeps us steady. It holds the capacity to move millions and to resonate with each individual, and every lyric, every note, every beat has the potential to share a message." You can hear their conversation here. Giddens's new album with Silkroad Ensemble, American Railroad, is out next week; their fall tour begins tonight.

"Hurray for the Riff Raff is the perfect music for this moment," Anna Sale says of the guest on her Slate podcast, Death, Sex & Money. "In it, you hear the sweep of American history and propulsive motion, coming together in joy and protest and marking losses in family and community, and Alynda Segarra's voice—clear and melodic with a sly punk edge." You can hear their conversation, about Segarra's life and music, here.
