David Byrne and the original cast of Here Lies Love will perform a one-time only special benefit concert in support of the people of the Philippines in the wake of Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan). The special show will take place at Terminal 5 in NYC on November 25. All proceeds will go to support Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) relief efforts in the Philippines. “The show is about the resiliency of the Philippine people—it couldn’t be more timely,” says Byrne. “Upon hearing about this tragedy the cast contacted me about doing a show to raise money for relief efforts. Most of our cast is Filipino, and all of us feel the same way. It’s personal for all of us."

“The show is about the resiliency of the Philippine people—it couldn’t be more timely,” says Byrne. “Upon hearing about this tragedy the cast contacted me about doing a show to raise money for relief efforts. Most of our cast is Filipino, and all of us feel the same way. It’s personal for all of us. We all dropped whatever we were doing and this concert version of the show will happen on November 25 at Terminal 5 here in New York.”

Directed by Alex Timbers, the theatrical production of Here Lies Love premiered at The Public Theater in New York in April, was extended four times and won an Outer Critics Circle Award, an Obie Award, Drama Desk Awards for Outstanding Music, Lighting Design, and Projection Design, and two Theatre World Awards. The benefit show will feature the cast performing all songs from the acclaimed musical in the original order.

“The tragedy of Typhoon Haiyan that has engulfed the Philippines has been heartrending for all of us,” said Public Theater Artistic Director Oskar Eustis. “Here Lies Love made us feel a deep connection to the Philippine people, and to Tacloban specifically. Now we have a chance to make that connection matter. We hope this concert will raise money, raise awareness, and provide support for those who have lost so much.”

Nonesuch Records released a double-disc recording of the earlier song cycle version of Here Lies Love in 2010.

American Railroad, the new album from the Silkroad Ensemble with Rhiannon Giddens, is out now. It is the culmination of four years of research, collaboration, and music-making, having brought Silkroad artists all across the US to uncover and uplift stories of those who built the transcontinental railroad and connecting railways across North America. "The result is a tapestry of stories, traditions, and music that have shaped our multifaceted cultural identity, and that must be heard and recognized," Giddens says. Also out now are a performance video of the track "Mahk Jchi" and the first episode of the American Railroad podcast series. The US fall tour continues to November 23.
