Devendra Banhart, who made his Nonesuch Records debut with the release of his eighth studio album, Mala, earlier this year, kicks off a three-week tour of Latin America with two shows at El Plaza Condesa in Mexico City, tonight (sold out) and Saturday night. Banhart and the band—Noah Georgeson, Matthew Compton, Josiah Steinbrick, and Todd Dahlhoff, plus Rodrigo Amarante, who will join after this weekend’s shows—head next to four Brazilian cities, followed by shows in Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia, and Chile. See below for all of the currently scheduled Latin American tour dates; visit nonesuch.com/on-tour for additional details and tickets.
Mala was released to critical acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic, with Pitchfork calling it "Banhart's best record in nearly a decade." The album received four-star reviews from, among others, Mojo, Q, the Times of London, and the Guardian, which called it a "triumph." Under the Radar concludes: "He's a singularly idiosyncratic and brilliant songwriter, one hitting an arresting stride on this uniformly superb album."
To pick up a copy of Mala on CD, vinyl, MP3, and FLAC, and Banhart's "in the pocket" t-shirt, head to the Nonesuch Store now.
