Dr. John kicks off a month-long summer tour of Europe and the UK, starting at the Hop Farm Festival on Friday and making stops in cities like Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin, and London and festivals like Roskilde, Montreux, and Nice. Joining Dr. John for the tour is his band The Lower 911, featuring Jon Cleary; Trombone Shorty & New Orleans Avenue also join for a few shows. Dr. John returns to the US in August for the next leg of his North American tour, starting at the Newport Jazz Festival.

Dr. John (a.k.a. Mac Rebennack) kicks off a month-long summer tour of Europe and the UK, starting at the Hop Farm Festival in Kent this Friday, June 29, and making stops at clubs in Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin, London, Edinburgh, Gateshead, and Dublin and festivals like Roskilde, Montreux, Nice, and more through July. The tour will feature music from his new album, Locked Down, which NPR includes among its 25 favorite albums of the year so far, and favorite tunes from throughout the New Orleans legend's 50+ year career. Joining Mac for the tour will be his band The Lower 911, featuring fellow New Orleans-based musician Jon Cleary; Trombone Shorty & New Orleans Avenue also join for a few shows along the way.

The European tour follows Dr. John's spring tour of the United States. He returns to the States in August for the next leg of his North American tour, which begins with a concert for the opening night of the Newport Jazz Festival on August 3. A number of fall US dates have been announced as well, including two with the Blind Boys of Alabama.     American Railroad, the new album from the Silkroad Ensemble with Rhiannon Giddens, is out now. It is the culmination of four years of research, collaboration, and music-making, having brought Silkroad artists all across the US to uncover and uplift stories of those who built the transcontinental railroad and connecting railways across North America. "The result is a tapestry of stories, traditions, and music that have shaped our multifaceted cultural identity, and that must be heard and recognized," Giddens says. Also out now are a performance video of the track "Mahk Jchi" and the first episode of the American Railroad podcast series. The US fall tour continues to November 23.
