The Remix Collection from "Here Lies Love", featuring reimaginings of the music from David Byrne and Fatboy Slim’s off-Broadway hit, is set for release September 30 on the Todomundo! label, available to preorder at herelieslove.com. The album will be available at Here Lies Love performances at The Public Theater in New York and Dorfman Theater in London as well as via the Here Lies Love website, DavidByrne.com, and other outlets.

After being asked to remix music from the show for in-theater use, Stine created a full song-cycle of remixes, using music from the show and the cast album, released earlier this year on Nonesuch Records, alongside the originally released all-star album, also on Nonesuch, featuring Santigold, Florence Welch (Florence + The Machine), Sia, Steve Earle, St. Vincent, Natalie Merchant, Tori Amos, Sharon Jones, Nicole Atkins, and many others singing the show’s roles. After hearing the music, Byrne decided to release the full cycle of remixes to the public.

Here Lies Love premiered at the Public Theater in April of 2013 and was extended four times, and will begin its London debut September 30 at the National Theatre’s new Dorfman Theatre. Directed by Alex Timbers and based on the life of Filipina First Lady Imelda Marcos, the play is the recipient of five Lucille Lortel awards, an Obie Award for music and lyrics; an Outer Critics Circle Award; Drama Desk Awards for Outstanding Music, Lighting Design, and Projection Design; and two Theatre World Awards. The Public’s production was hailed by the New York Observer as “the must-see event of the season” and by Vogue as “a life-giving, roof-raising, booty-shaking blast of joy.”

Marcos’s love for disco and club music served as the inspiration for the musical, retracing her meteoric rise to power and subsequent descent into infamy and disgrace at the end of the People Power Revolution.

Byrne collaborated with director Alex Timbers (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson) to bring the music to the stage. Ruthie Ann Miles’ starring performance was praised as “striking” by New York magazine, “magnetic, sexy and poignant” by the New York Post, and “vivid and haunting” by the New York Daily News. Entertainment Weekly declares “not only does [Miles] have a lovely, dynamic set of pipes, but she also infuses the first lady with just the right amount of strength and sensitivity.” Miles earned a Theatre World Award for her performance.

Composer and trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire’s album honey from a winter stone, which he calls a “self-portrait,” is out now. It features improvisational vocalist Kokayi, pianist Sam Harris, Chiquitamagic on synthesizer, drummer Justin Brown, and the Mivos Quartet. “For arguably the most technically gifted trumpeter of his generation, a lot of Ambrose Akinmusire’s breakthroughs actually come from letting go of standards and structures," says the New York Times. "Lately Akinmusire has been making some of the most intimate, spellbinding music of his career.”

David Longstreth’s Song of the Earth, a song cycle for orchestra and voices, is due April 4. Performed by Longstreth with his band Dirty Projectors—Felicia Douglass, Maia Friedman, Olga Bell—and the Berlin-based chamber orchestra s t a r g a z e, conducted by André de Ridder, the album also features Phil Elverum (Mount Eerie), Steve Lacy, Patrick Shiroishi, Anastasia Coope, Tim Bernardes, Ayoni, Portraits of Tracy, and the author David Wallace-Wells. Longstreth says that while Song of the Earth—his biggest-yet foray into the field of concert music—"is not a ‘climate change opera,’” he wanted to “find something beyond sadness: beauty spiked with damage. Acknowledgement flecked with hope, irony, humor, rage.”
