Congratulations to k.d. lang, who has been awarded the Alberta Order of Excellence, the highest honor the Province of Alberta can bestow on a citizen. The Canadian singer-songwriter, who was born in Edmonton and spent her childhood in Consort, Alberta, was given the medal in a ceremony at Government House in Edmonton. In 1996, lang received Canada's highest civilian honor, the Order of Canada.

Congratulations to k.d. lang, who has been awarded the Alberta Order of Excellence. The Canadian singer-songwriter, who was born in Edmonton and spent her childhood in Consort, Alberta, was given the medal in a ceremony at Government House in Edmonton hosted by Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Lois E. Mitchell, Chancellor of the Order, last Thursday, where she also met with Premier Rachel Notley, among others.

The Alberta Order of Excellence is the highest honor the Province of Alberta can bestow on a citizen. The order recognizes people from all walks of life—from medicine, science, engineering, law, and business to politics, education, agriculture and the arts—who have made an outstanding provincial, national, or international impact.

k.d. lang has received multiple Juno and Grammy awards and was given the Americana Trailblazer Award at the Americana Honors & Awards ceremony in Nashville in September. She sang at the closing ceremonies of the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary and the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. In 1996, lang received Canada's highest civilian honor, the Order of Canada. Her latest album is a special 25th Anniversary Edition of her breakthrough album Ingénue, released on Nonesuch Records in 2017.
