k.d. lang and the Siss Boom Bang head back on the road tonight to resume their North American tour, performing music from their new album, Sing it Loud, released earlier this year on Nonesuch Records, plus favorite songs from throughout lang's career.

lang and the band kick off the fall leg of their tour in the farthest Northwest, with three nights in Alaska. First up is the 2011-12 season opener of the Fairbanks Concert Association with tonight's show at Hering Auditorium in Fairbanks, followed by two nights at the Atwood Concert Hall in Anchorage. From there, the tour swings east for shows all along the East Coast, from Maine to Florida, before heading west through Texas, Arizona, and Nevada, and coming to a close in California at the end of next month.

Lifelong Alaskan Melissa Mitchell will open for lang and the band for their Anchorage shows. Singer-songwriter Teddy Thompson will open all of the shows following the Alaska run, from next week's show at the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown, New Jersey, through the tour's closer at the Balboa Theatre in San Diego on October 24.

And the music-making continues after that, as k.d. lang and the Siss Boom Bang head south in November for a tour of Australia that includes a whopping six nights in Sydney.

American Railroad, the new album from the Silkroad Ensemble with Rhiannon Giddens, is out now. It is the culmination of four years of research, collaboration, and music-making, having brought Silkroad artists all across the US to uncover and uplift stories of those who built the transcontinental railroad and connecting railways across North America. "The result is a tapestry of stories, traditions, and music that have shaped our multifaceted cultural identity, and that must be heard and recognized," Giddens says. Also out now are a performance video of the track "Mahk Jchi" and the first episode of the American Railroad podcast series. The US fall tour continues to November 23.
