The Los Angeles Philharmonic has announced its 2020–21 season, and among the artists performing at Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles are Nonesuch artists John Adams, Joshua Redman, and Brad Mehldau. The new season also brings performances of several works by Adams, as well as music by Louis Andriessen, Steve Reich, Timo Andres, and Nico Muhly.

John Adams, the Creative Chair of the LA Phil, helps open the season when the orchestra, led by Gustavo Dudamel, performs his two fanfares for orchestra, Tromba Lontana and Short Ride in a Fast Machine, as part of its Opening Night Concert and Gala on Tuesday, September 22, 2020. Dudamel conducts the orchestra in three performances of Adams's groundbreaking first opera, Nixon in China, on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday, November 19, 21, and 22.

The composer himself leads the LA Phil New Music Group in two concerts: on Tuesday, September 29, 2020, and again on Tuesday, March 2, 2021, the latter program featuring Louis Andriessen's De Staat. That 1985 piece takes its text from Plato's The Republic and had been dubbed "a Minimalist classic" by the New York Times. Adams conducts the full LA Phil in two performances of his newest opera, 2017's Girls of the Golden West, on Friday and Sunday, February 26 and 28, 2021.

Joshua Redman and Brad Mehldau are joined by bassist Christian McBride and percussionist Brian Blade for a concert on Sunday, September 27, 2020. The four musicians first performed together as the Joshua Redman Quartet on the album MoodSwing back in 1994.

Additionally, the 2020–21 season brings the West Coast premiere of Nico Muhly's Concerto for Two Pianos by Katia and Marielle Labèque in Walt Disney Concert Hall on March 12 and 13 and a program of works by Muhly, Steve Reich, Timo Andres, and more by the Labèque sisters with guitarists Bryce Dessner and David Chalmin on March 16.
