Laurie Anderson has began a short tour of the East Coast with music from her new album, Homeland, in two shows at Philadelphia's World Cafe Live, one at New York's (Le) Poisson Rouge, and one at The Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia. She was recently featured on PRI's Studio 360 and appears on PRI's Echoes today. The Philadelphia Inquirer says Anderson's "current projects suggest that, at 63, she's at a late-middle-age creative peak."
Laurie Anderson has began a short tour of the East Coast with music from Homeland, her latest Nonesuch release and her first studio album in nearly a decade. The show, titled Another Day in America: Songs from the Album "Homeland" & Other Stories, kicked off last night with the first of two nights at Philadelphia's World Cafe Live and returns to the venue for a second show tonight. Anderson and her band play for a hometown crowd on Tuesday, performing at New York's (Le) Poisson Rouge before closing out the tour at The Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia, on Friday. The Philadelphia Inquirer previewed the World Cafe shows with a feature profile of Anderson by the paper's classical music critic, David Patrick Stearns. In the piece, Anderson discusses her art and the challenging process of assembling the myriad sound files she had collected over the years for Homeland and creating the resulting album, with the help of her husband and co-producer, Lou Reed. Stearns says Anderson's "current projects suggest that, at 63, she's at a late-middle-age creative peak." Read the article at philly.com.

Anderson recently appeared on PRI's Studio 360, talking with host Kurt Andersen about creating the new album. "Laurie Anderson has no boundaries when it comes to making music," says the show; Andersen describes his guest as a "Renaissance woman: composer, musician, poet, theater whiz, instrument designer, fine artist, and I'm probably forgetting others."
