Devendra Banhart is on Jenny Eliscu's LSQ podcast. His new album, Ma, is "awesome," says Eliscu, "his best album in a minute, kind of a return to form and a reminder of all of the heart and soul in his music." Of their conversation, she says: "It was great to get to talk with my dear old friend about stuff we've never gotten to before. You don't always get to ask your friends such nerdy questions as I do in this convo ... I was so curious to know about how this incredibly interesting and unique artist ended up sounding the way he does." Hear what he had to say here.

Devendra Banhart is the guest on the latest episode of Jenny Eliscu's LSQ podcast. They spoke just before the release of his new album, Ma, last month. The album is "awesome," says Eliscu, "his best album in a minute, kind of a return to form and a reminder of all of the heart and soul in his music." Of their conversation, she says: "It was great to get to talk with my dear old friend about stuff we've never gotten to before. You don't always get to ask your friends such nerdy questions as I do in this convo ... I was so curious to know about how this incredibly interesting and unique artist ended up sounding the way he does." You can hear what he had to say in their discussion below.

Banhart began a twenty-five city tour in California this week. The West Coast leg of the tour continues with shows in Oregon and Washington this weekend and returns to California next week. He makes stops in Chicago, Mexico City, Detroit, Toronto, Brooklyn, and more in the months ahead and tours Europe in January and February. For details and tickets, see below and visit nonesuch.com/on-tour. Banhart has partnered with PLUS1 so that $1 from every US headline-show ticket sold will go to World Central Kitchen to fight hunger around the world, and in Canada to support Rainbow Railroad to help LGBTI people around the world escape persecution and violence.

To pick up a copy of Ma, head to your local record store, Amazon, iTunes, and the Nonesuch Store; the album can also be heard on Spotify and Apple Music.

The Way Out of Easy, the first album from guitarist Jeff Parker and his long-running ETA IVtet—saxophonist Josh Johnson, bassist Anna Butterss, drummer Jay Bellerose—since their 2022 debut Mondays at the Enfield Tennis Academy, which Pitchfork named one of the Best Albums of the 2020s So Far, is out now on International Anthem / Nonesuch Records. Like that album, The Way Out of Easy comprises recordings from LA venue ETA, where Parker and the ensemble held a weekly residency for seven years. During that time, the ETA IVtet evolved from a band that played mostly standards into a group known for its transcendent, long-form journeys into innovative, groove-oriented improvised music. All four tracks on The Way Out of Easy come from a single night in 2023, providing an unfiltered view of the ensemble, fully in their element.

The Staves' new EP Happy New Year, out today, includes three acoustic versions of tracks from their new album, All Now—"I Don't Say It, But I Feel It," "After School," and "All Now"—and a cover of The Beatles' "She's Leaving Home." Also out now: an acoustic performance video for "After School," which the duo calls "a love song to our sister Emily inspired by the bands we were listening to in the '90s. Putting on the rose-tinted glasses and embracing nostalgia."
