Hurray for the Riff Raff, aka Alynda Segarra, marked the release of their Nonesuch debut album, LIFE ON EARTH, on Friday as the guest on NPR's World Cafe. They performed four songs from the album—"PIERCED ARROWS," "POINTED AT THE SUN," "LIFE ON EARTH," and "SAGA"—and spoke with host Stephen Kallao about the making of the album and more. "At its heart," says Kallao, "when so many things are terribly frustrating, Life on Earth is an affirmation of humanity and how we can bring joy to ourself and others in difficult times." You can hear the session here.

Life on Earth is a departure for the Bronx-born, New Orleans-based singer/songwriter. Its eleven new "nature punk" tracks on the theme of survival are music for a world in flux—songs about thriving, not just surviving, while disaster is happening. The album was recorded during the pandemic with producer Brad Cook (Waxahatchee, Bon Iver, Kevin Morby). While making it, Segarra drew inspiration from the Clash, Beverly Glenn-Copeland, Bad Bunny, and the author of Emergent Strategy, adrienne maree brown. You can hear it and get it here. Nonesuch Store LP and CD orders include a limited-edition print autographed by Segarra, while they last.

Hurray for the Riff Raff tours North America this spring, beginning March 19 in Atlanta and continuing through April 20 in Nashville, with stops in Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York, among others. They tour the UK in July and again at the end of the summer, when they also tour Europe, with shows in Dublin, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, and more.
