Robert Plant was a guest on BBC Radio 6 Music’s Radcliffe and Maconie this afternoon. He joined his hosts for a conversation about his new album, lullaby and... The Ceaseless Roar, his “amazing education in music” growing up, the songwriting process, the formation of the Sensational Space Shifters band, and much more. Plant lauds his band’s “ability to explode into amazing rhythms” and says of the camaraderie on the road: “It’s just so much fun—we laugh and laugh.” 6 Music also plays samples of “Pocket Full of Golden” and “Turn It Up” from the new album, recently released on Nonesuch / Warner Bros. Robert Plant and the Sensational Space Shifters band perform a sold-out show at the Roundhouse in London tonight, as part of their 13-city sold-out tour of the United Kingdom and Ireland. The tour continues at City Hall in Hull on Friday and O2 Academy venues in Glasgow, Leeds, and Newcastle in the days ahead.     The Way Out of Easy, the first album from guitarist Jeff Parker and his long-running ETA IVtet—saxophonist Josh Johnson, bassist Anna Butterss, drummer Jay Bellerose—since their 2022 debut Mondays at the Enfield Tennis Academy, which Pitchfork named one of the Best Albums of the 2020s So Far, is out now on International Anthem / Nonesuch Records. Like that album, The Way Out of Easy comprises recordings from LA venue ETA, where Parker and the ensemble held a weekly residency for seven years. During that time, the ETA IVtet evolved from a band that played mostly standards into a group known for its transcendent, long-form journeys into innovative, groove-oriented improvised music. All four tracks on The Way Out of Easy come from a single night in 2023, providing an unfiltered view of the ensemble, fully in their element.
