The new album by The New Basement Tapes, Lost on the River, is available now from Electromagnetic Recordings/Harvest Records. Produced by T Bone Burnett, Lost on the River was written and performed in creative collaboration by Rhiannon Giddens—a co-founding member of Carolina Chocolate Drops— Elvis Costello, Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes, Jim James of My Morning Jacket, and Marcus Mumford of Mumford & Sons. The artists and Burnett gathered in Capitol Studios in March 2014 to write and create music for a treasure trove of recently discovered lyrics written by Bob Dylan in 1967 during the period that generated the recording of the legendary Basement Tapes.

As Burnett explains, “What transpired during those two weeks was amazing for all of us. There was a deep well of generosity and support in the studio at all times, which reflected the tremendous trust and generosity shown by Bob in sharing these lyrics with us in the first place.”

Lost Songs: The Basement Tapes Continued, a Showtime documentary that goes behind the scenes with the songwriters as they make new music for the project, premieres on Showtime on Friday, November 21, at 9PM ET/PT. You can watch The New Basement Tapes perform “Hidee Hidee Ho #16,” featuring lead vocals by Rhiannon Giddens, from the documentary, here:

Rhiannon Giddens, Marcus Mumford, and Elvis Costello can all be heard on the forthcoming Nonesuch Records release Another Day, Another Time: Celebrating the Music of "Inside Llewyn Davis,” an album that captures a one-night-only concert held at New York City’s Town Hall in 2013 to celebrate the music of the Coen brothers film Inside Llewyn Davis. The concert and album were produced by Joel and Ethan Coen and T Bone Burnett and is available to pre-order now in the Nonesuch Store.
