Joshua Redman and his trio, Reuben Rogers on bass and Greg Hutchinson on drums, are in Johannesburg, South Africa, tonight and tomorrow night for the city's Standard Bank Joy of Jazz series. Previewing the sets at the Bassline Club, the city's Tonight newspaper says "Redman's strong bop side comes to the fore" on his latest Nonesuch release, Back East. "This is a good example of where Redman is today, and what we can look forward to at Joy of Jazz," writes Tonight's Don Albert, who also recommends the SFJazz Collective album for a very different side of Redman.

Laurie Anderson's Homeland takes on the road again, following a five-day residency at New York's Lincoln Center last month. After two nights at the Gran Rex in Buenos Aires earlier this week, she heads to Santiago, Chile, for a 9 PM performance there Saturday at Estacion.

The Black Keys are back in the Midwest on Saturday as special guests of The Black Crowes at the Minnesota State Fair in St. Paul, complete with fairground fun, food vendors featuring everything from funnel cake to the famous hot-dish-on-a-stick, livestock competitions, rides, art exhibits. Punch Brothers play three shows out West this weekend, two in Colorado and one in California. Tonight they'll play the Mishawaka Amphitheatre in Bellvue, Colorado, before heading to Pagosa Springs' Reservoir Hill Park on Saturday for the weekend-long Four Corners Folk Festival, headlined by the legendary Earl Scruggs. The next day, they'll play the penultimate set at the sold-out Strawberry Music Festival in Groveland, California, sharing the bill with the likes of Mavis Staples, Patty Griffin, Old 97s, and Sam Bush.

Wilco makes a special trip over to County Laios, Ireland, for a one-off performance Saturday, playing the Electric Picnic at Stradbelly Hall. Tickets are sold out, but you'll find information on the event, with the complete line-up of the dozens of performers set to play over the weekend, at electricpicnic.ie. It's the last scheduled tour date till this fall's North American tour opening for Neil Young.
In the mean time, members of the band will continue to tour with solo sets. Nels Cline kicks things off at the Angel City Jazz Festival in Los Angeles on Monday, Jeff Tweedy launches the first of four performances in Spain on Tuesday, and Glenn Kotche joins Kronos Quartet on Wednesday for the the Ravinia Festival premiere of his piece Anomaly.
