Record Store Day, the annual celebration of indie record stores, is upon us, with events and special releases planned for tomorrow. Nonesuch artists will be well represented: Laurie Anderson makes a rare in-store appearance at London's Rough Trade East at 2 PM to discuss her forthcoming Nonesuch release, Homeland, and sign copies of the limited-edition 12” album single "Only an Expert." The Carolina Chocolate Drops perform at Criminal Records in Atlanta at 6 PM. The Black Keys' "Tighten Up" 12" single, off the album Brothers, will be available, as will Wilco's four-disc Kicking Television vinyl box set. Emmylou Harris will make an appearance at The Groove in Nashville. For more on these events, read the recent article in the Nonesuch Journal.

Laurie Anderson's London appearance coincides with her four-night residency at the Barbican Theatre, where she is presenting her latest piece, Delusion. Performances continue tonight and Saturday. The Guardian, Times of London, and Financial Times each give it four stars. Anderson "works her magic," says the Financial Times, "and the piece, with its contradictions, shafts of insight and splinters of wit lingers with you, long after the event, like a powerful dream."

---

Louis Andriessen's Debs Composer's Chair concerts at Carnegie Hall, which began a week ago, continue through the weekend. Unfortunately, Making Music: Louis Andriessen, in which musicians like Dawn Upshaw and Bang on a Can All-Stars were set to perform works by Andriessen, with commentary from the composer, has been canceled due to the cessation of flights from Europe. For the latest information, visit carnegiehall.org.

Sunday's all-Andriessen program at (Le) Poisson Rouge from ACME is still on tap, with a pre-concert talk between Andriessen and Nonesuch President Robert Hurwitz. For much more information on all the Andriessen-curated events, read the recent Nonesuch Journal article.

David Robertson and the Saint Louis Symphony perform John Adams's Doctor Atomic Symphony in San Francisco's Davies Symphony Hall Saturday night. Robertson led the orchestra in the first recording of the piece, released on Nonesuch last year. Violinist Gil Shaham joins the orchestra on a program that also includes works by Prokofiev, Sibelius, and Christopher Rouse. Immediately following the concert, Adams, Robertson, and Shaham will participate in a CD signing at the Symphony Store in the Hall lobby.

Saturday, Pat and Dan head down to Florida for the Wanee Music Festival in Live Oak; headlining the event are the Allman Brothers. And finally, on Sunday, the duo hits the Fillmore at the Jackie Gleason Theatre in Miami Beach. All three different venues, same rocking good time.

They're now on tour together as a duo, appearing at the Zankel Music Center at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York, tonight, and at the Staller Center for the Arts in Stony Brook, New York, on Saturday. The Albany Times Union, previewing tonight's show, describes Redman as "among the most influential musicians of his generation on his instrument." In a recent review of Highway Rider, Jazz Times says of Mehldau: "He remains one of the most consistently fascinating voices in current
jazz, whatever the vehicle at hand, and this album has no shortage of
ideas, energy or emotional soil to till."

Rokia Traoré's all-too-brief US tour began last weekend and comes to a close this Sunday after three final shows, at the Somerville Theatre outside Boston tonight, the Highline Ballroom in New York City on Saturday, and the Flynn Center in Burlington, Vermont, on Sunday. American Railroad, the new album from the Silkroad Ensemble with Rhiannon Giddens, is out now. It is the culmination of four years of research, collaboration, and music-making, having brought Silkroad artists all across the US to uncover and uplift stories of those who built the transcontinental railroad and connecting railways across North America. "The result is a tapestry of stories, traditions, and music that have shaped our multifaceted cultural identity, and that must be heard and recognized," Giddens says. Also out now are a performance video of the track "Mahk Jchi" and the first episode of the American Railroad podcast series. The US fall tour continues to November 23.
