Emmylou Harris hosts the inaugural Woofstock, a very special day of music and more to support a cause that's near and dear to her heart (and home): Bonaparte's Retreat, the dog rescue organization she created at her house in Nashville. The day-long event takes place at The Woods at Fontanel in Nashville on Saturday, starting at 10 AM, and includes live performances from Harris, Buddy Miller, Mike Farris, Shawn Camp, and others; food; and a pet adoption. Folks are encouraged to bring their own dogs as well to join in the fun.
"We just wanted it to be a day where people could come out and have fun, bring their dogs, listen to some music, have some good food," Harris tells Billboard magazine. "It would be wonderful if we got a few dog adoptions, but mainly, we want to raise awareness of shelter dogs in the area—not just at Bonaparte's—but all the rescues in the area that are available for adoption in our community. We really hope it will be an annual event."
The event, Harris tells American Songwriter, is "a gathering and celebration. And obviously, we are going to be talking about the idea of adopting from a shelter. It doesn’t have to be my shelter. Anytime a dog is picked up, I’m happy."

The Black Keys continue their European tour with three festival dates on the Continent this weekend: the sold-out Lowlands Festival at Walibi Park in Biddinghuizen, Netherlands, tonight; Pukkelpop at Kempische Steenweg in Hasselt-Kiewit, Belgium, on Saturday; and Highfield Festival at Störmthaler Lake in Großpösna, Leipzig, Germany, on Sunday.

Lianne La Havas, who played Pukkelpop yesterday, is also performing at the Lowlands Festival in Biddinghuizen, Netherlands, today, followed by a return home to Britain for a set at the Summer Sundae Weekender at De Montfort Hall & Gardens in Leicester on Saturday. She performs songs from her just-released debut album, Is Your Love Big Enough?.

Billy Bragg brings his summer tour back home to the UK and to Leicester's Summer Sundae on Sunday as well. It's one of three UK festival sets this weekend, also including Strummer of Love—a celebration of the legacy of Joe Strummer to benefit Strummerville, the Joe Strummer Foundation for New Music—in Somerset tonight and Beautiful Days Festival in Devon's Escot Park on Saturday. The sets feature songs from the Mermaid Avenue albums, for which Bragg and Wilco set the words of Woody Guthrie to music.

Jeremy Denk performs two concerts at the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival this weekend, both at the Lensic Performing Arts Center in Santa Fe, New Mexico. First up is a performance of Bach's Piano Concert No. 2 in E Major, BWV 1053, on Saturday evening, followed by Elgar's Piano Quintet in A Minor, Op. 84, with the Tokyo String Quartet on Sunday evening.

Dr. John and his band the Lower 911 featuring Jon Cleary play two shows in California this weekend: at The Independent in San Francisco tonight and at Club Nokia in Los Angeles on Saturday. The latter show is part of the Guitar Center's Battle of the Blues, which also includes a performance from Joe Bonamassa plus the grand finals in the search for the nation's top undiscovered blues guitar player.

Punch Brothers, following a week's tour of Australia, resumed their North American tour with a performance at the Lake Superior Big Top Chautauqua in Bayfield, Wisconsin, last night. The band remains in Wisconsin for a set at Milwaukee's Henry Maier Festival Park tonight as part of Milwaukee Irish Fest, then head south to Kentucky for a headline show at the Madison Theater in Covington on Saturday.
That's Punch Brothers' last scheduled show before their set at Cannery Ballroom in Nashville next month as part of the annual Americana Music Festival, and Chris Thile has just announced two solo shows at the intimate Rockwood Music Hall in New York City in mid-September.
