The 10th annual Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival kicked off yesterday in Manchester, Tennessee, and continues this weekend with performances from Jessica Lea Mayfield, Wanda Jackson, and Sara Watkins with the Decemberists today; The Low Anthem and The Black Keys on Saturday; and two special sets with Dr. John featuring Allen Toussaint and Dan Auerbach Saturday night and Sunday, respectively.
Nonesuch has teamed up with Relix magazine to offer two special contests to Bonnaroo attendees: a private performance and meet-and-greet with Mayfield, plus a signed copy of her new album, Tell Me, with a winner announced at 2 PM today; and a meet-and-greet with and side-stage passes to see The Low Anthem, a signed copy of their album Smart Flesh, and a band t-shirt, with a winner chosen at 10 AM Saturday. Head to the Relix tent in Centeroo to enter to win.

The Black Keys give an early taste of what's to come at Bonnaroo with a show tonight at The Lawn at White River State Park in Indianapolis. Also performing are Booker T. Jones, Nicole Atkins & The Black Sea.
Following their performance at Bonnaroo, The Low Anthem heads to Atlanta for a Sunday night show at the Fox Theatre. This is their last of several spring shows with Mumford & Sons. The Low Anthem stays in town for a free in-store performance at Criminal Records Monday at noon.

Christina Courtin performs with Brooklyn Rider on Sunday at Le Poisson Rouge in New York City. The performance is a feature of the venue's week-long three-year anniversary celebration.

Philip Glass conducts The Days and Nights Festival Players at the New York City Metropolitan Museum of Art on Saturday. On the program are selections from Franz Schubert’s Four Impromptus and two recent Glass works for violin and piano, in addition to the US premiere of his String Quartet No. 5 (1991). The concert is preceded by a talk with Glass and music consultant Richard Guérin.

Gidon Kremer receives the Lifetime Achievement Award from the 39th International Istanbul Music Festival at the Hagia Irene Museum in Istanbul tonight. The ceremony precedes a concert by Kremer and the Kremerata Baltica, performing works by Lourié, Shostakovich, and Bach. For more information, read the article in the Hürriyet Daily News, which describes Kremer as "a ceaseless contributor to the development of the contemporary music repertory."

As noted earlier in the Nonesuch Journal, Kronos Quartet begins its residency at the Luminato Festival in Toronto in a concert with Alim Qasimov Ensemble at Koerner Hall tonight. Kronos returns to Koerner Hall on Saturday night with the Homayun Sakhi Trio, featuring Sakhi on the Afghan rubâb. Kronos performs a free outdoor concert on the Festival Main Stage in the city's Metro Hall Square Sunday night. A fourth concert will be held next week.

The Joshua Redman Trio, featuring Reuben Rogers and Gregory Hutchinson, performs at the Auditório Ibirapuera in São Paulo, Brazil, tonight as a part of the BMW Jazz Festival. The Trio performs again in Rio de Janeiro on Monday before Redman returns to New York City for a round of shows with James Farm at the Jazz Standard later next week.

As noted yesterday in the Nonesuch Journal, Dawn Upshaw has three events this weekend at the Ojai Music Festival, of which she is this year's musical director. She joins director Peter Sellars and pianist Gilbert Kalish at the Libbey Bowl tonight for the world premiere of a new staged production of George Crumb’s The Winds of Destiny (American Songbook IV), with red fish blue fish on percussion. On Saturday afternoon, Upshaw sits down with the festival's symposium director, Ara Guzelimian, at the Matilija Auditorium to discuss the topic of Creative Directions. For the festival's closing concert on Sunday, Upshaw performs at the Libbey Bowl with the Australian Chamber Orchestra in the world premiere of Maria Schneider's Winter Morning Walks, as well as a performance of Bartók's Five Hungarian Folk Songs.
