Olivia Chaney continues her US tour this long weekend with shows at Bryant Lake Bowl in Minneapolis on Valentine’s Day Saturday, Barboza in Seattle on Sunday, and Hotel Café in Los Angeles on Presidents Day Monday. The tour comes to a close with a set at SubCulture in New York City on Thursday. The performances feature music from Chaney's forthcoming debut album, coming soon on Nonesuch Records.

Chaney’s tour-launching concert in Boston last week “cohered in a distinctive, sparse sound that shimmered with delicate intensity,” writes the Boston Globe’s Stuart Munro. “At its center was a thing of beauty, Chaney’s voice, whether she was singing in English, Spanish, French, or Italian. That voice has been called one of the finest in English folk music; it took only one song to see why.” Read the complete review at bostonglobe.com.

The Chicago Reader’s Peter Margasak, previewing her recent show at the Old Town School of Folk Music, says: “Chaney’s got so many tools and so much potential it’s almost frightening—in part because she might decide to whittle her interests down into something less sweeping. But for now I’m thrilled by the possibilities.”

Tune in to hear Chris Thile guest host beloved public radio program A Prairie Home Companion from the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul, Minnesota, on Saturday. This is the second week in a row with Thile helming the show for Garrison Keillor, following last weekend’s show with musical guests Punch Brothers. His musical guest this week: labelmate Rhiannon Giddens, whose debut solo album, Tomorrow is My Turn, was released on Tuesday. Fans can watch A Prairie Home Companion streaming online at prairiehome.org.

After a brief stint in Europe, Jeremy Denk continues his US concert tour at Thomas Wolfe Auditorium in Asheville, North Carolina, on Saturday. Natalie Merchant is a guest on BBC Radio 4's Saturday Live tomorrow morning. As part of the channel's "Inheritance Tracks" series, which celebrates the music guests cherish and would like to bestow to future generations, she discusses Petula Clark's "The Games People Play" and her own song "Wonder." Tune in then or to listen again at bbc.co.uk.

Steve Reich is the subject of a series of workshops and performances at Kings Place in London entitled Minimalism Unwrapped. As part of the extensive weekend events, the London Sinfonietta performs Clapping Music, Electric Counterpoint, and New York Counterpoint this morning and afternoon. Kings Place's Resident Orchestra, Aurora, then explores Reich and his influences, pairing Reich’s Pulitzer Prize-winning piece Double Sextet with works by Pérotin, Bach, and Stravinsky tonight.

Saturday includes a study day, presented by members of the Society for Minimalist Music, examining Reich’s work, and culminates in Saturday night performances of his Clapping Music, Four Organs, The Mallet Quartet, and the Sextet by the London Sinfonietta. Finally, the Carducci Quartet performs Different Trains and WTC 9/11 on Sunday morning.

Coincidentally, also in London this weekend, percussionist Colin Currie joins student of the Royal Academy of Music for a performance of Drumming at the Royal Academy’s Dukes Hall. Currie and Reich sat down for a series of videos on the composer’s music and influences for Sinfini Music, which you can watch here.

American Railroad, the new album from the Silkroad Ensemble with Rhiannon Giddens, is out now. It is the culmination of four years of research, collaboration, and music-making, having brought Silkroad artists all across the US to uncover and uplift stories of those who built the transcontinental railroad and connecting railways across North America. "The result is a tapestry of stories, traditions, and music that have shaped our multifaceted cultural identity, and that must be heard and recognized," Giddens says. Also out now are a performance video of the track "Mahk Jchi" and the first episode of the American Railroad podcast series. The US fall tour continues to November 23.
