This long weekend, as we celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr., there is no shortage of collaborations among artists this weekend, as just about every performance listed below finds musicians partnering with other musicians on stage.

John Adams's Second Quartet receives its world premiere in a performance by the St. Lawrence String Quartet at Stanford University's Bing Concert Hall Sunday night, bookended by works by Haydn and Beethoven. Adams wrote the new piece for the St. Lawrence, as he did his original String Quartet (now likely to be known as the First Quartet), the first recording of which was released on Nonesuch Records in 2011.

"String quartet writing is one of the most difficult challenges a composer can take on," Adams says. "What I appreciate about my friends in the St. Lawrence is their willingness to let me literally ‘improvise’ on them as if they were a piano or a drum and I a crazy man beating away with only the roughest outlines of what I want."

Devendra Banhart kicks off a monthly dubstep radio show with Josiah Steinbrick called Sportsmen this Monday. The show, which promises "a gentle journey through a landscape speckled with fragrant melodies and rhythmic delights," airs every third Monday at noon PT. Details at dubstep.com.

---

Richard Linklater's film Boyhood, which has just been nominated for six Oscars and won three Golden Globe Awards, including Best Picture, last weekend, returns to theaters across the United States this weekend. To find out where Boyhood is playing in a theater near you, click here.

Richard Goode joins the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and conductor David Roberston for performances of Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 17, K. 453, at Powell Hall in St. Louis, Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. Goode performed the Concerto with Orpheus Chamber Orchestra for a Nonesuch recording more than 20 years ago. Also on this weekend's program are Mozart's "Jupiter" Symphony and works by Lutosławski and Tippett.

---

Gidon Kremer joins pianist Daniil Trifonov, a member of his Kremerata Baltica chamber orchestra, for two concerts this weekend: performing works by Mozart, Weinberg, and Schubert at the Seligman Performing Arts Center in Farmington Hills, Michigan, on Saturday and at Shriver Hall in Baltimore on Sunday, for which they will be joined by another member of Kremerata Baltica, cellist Giedre Dirvanauskaite, to perform Rachmaninoff's Trio élégiaque.

---

Kronos Quartet is joined by frequent collaborator Wu Man for a performance of Terry Riley's The Cusp of Magic close to home at Hertz Hall at the University of California in Berkeley on Sunday. Kronos and Wu recorded the piece for a 2008 Nonesuch release. Also on this weekend's program is Kevin Volans' White Man Sleeps, the Kronos recording of which was released on Nonesuch in 1987, and David T. Little's AGENCY. All three pieces were written for Kronos.

---

Audra McDonald resumes her US tour when she joins the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra with her music director Andy Einhorn as guest conductor in a performance in the Eastman Theatre's Kodak Hall on Saturday. McDonald's latest solo album, Go Back Home, was release on Nonesuch Records in 2013.

---

Randy Newman joins the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra for a performance at the Mahalia Jackson Theater in his childhood hometown of New Orleans on Saturday. He heads to Arkansas for a performance with the Conway Symphony Orchestra on Tuesday.

---

Joshua Redman is the special guest of Umphrey's McGee for three performances in New York this weekend: at the Beacon Theatre in New York City tonight and Saturday and at The Paramount in Huntington on Long Island on Sunday.

Earlier this week, Redman joined family, friends, and colleagues of the late Charlie Haden, including Pat Metheny, Brad Mehldau, and Bill Frisell, in a memorial concert for Haden at The Town Hall in New York City. You can read the New York Times review of the event at nytimes.com.

American Railroad, the new album from the Silkroad Ensemble with Rhiannon Giddens, is out now. It is the culmination of four years of research, collaboration, and music-making, having brought Silkroad artists all across the US to uncover and uplift stories of those who built the transcontinental railroad and connecting railways across North America. "The result is a tapestry of stories, traditions, and music that have shaped our multifaceted cultural identity, and that must be heard and recognized," Giddens says. Also out now are a performance video of the track "Mahk Jchi" and the first episode of the American Railroad podcast series. The US fall tour continues to November 23.
