As performances for the David Byrne–curated Meltdown festival continue at the Southbank Centre throughout the weekend (and, in fact, through the end of the month), BBC Radio 6 Music joins in on the celebration and begins a weekend-long series of programs featuring Byrne. To kick things off, Byrne joins Lauren Laverne to co-present live from the Southbank Centre this morning, discussing the festival line-up and more. Byrne chats with Gilles Peterson about curating the festival on Saturday (3–6 PM). And on Sunday, Byrne makes his debut as a 6 Music presenter, with a two-hour special airing 4–6 PM. Later on that day, Stuart Maconie presents a Freak Zone special (8–10 PM) devoted to Byrne’s pioneering collaboration with Brian Eno, My Life in the Bush of Ghosts.

"It’s terrific for 6 Music to be able to celebrate the legacy and impact of such an important musical force as David Byrne," says Paul Rodgers, Head of Programmes for 6 Music.

Timo Andres joins Gabriel Kahane for the final show of the singer-songwriter's residency at Rockwood Music Hall Stage 2 in New York City on Sunday. "Thus," Kahane tweets, "in addition to the usual shenanigans, you may expect a dose of Ives, Britten, Schumann, & one exceptionally well-tailored suit!"

---

Ry Cooder continues his North American tour with singer Sharon White and country/bluegrass musician Ricky Skaggs at The Paramount in Charlottesville, Virginia, tonight and Tennessee Theatre in Knoxville, Tennessee, on Saturday. The Charlottesville Daily Progress, previewing tonight's performance, gives a sense of what to expect at the show: "legendary musicians playing the songs they love, regardless of genre or when they were written."

---

Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club, a core band featuring several of the original musicians from Buena Vista Social Club, continues its "Adios" tour of North America at the Denver Botanic Gardens in Denver, Colorado, on Saturday. "I encourage you to take this last chance to see Buena Vista if you can," says Billboard's Judy Cantor-Navas. "There’s an intimacy gained from years on the road together that’s beautiful to watch."

---

And coming in the week ahead ...

Randy Newman and Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell give intimate performances at private home in New Orleans to benefit New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity. Monday's concert with Newman—who is the subject of a feature profile in the latest issue of Intelligent Life, The Economist's arts and culture magazine—is sold out, but tickets are still available for Harris and Crowell's show on Wednesday.
