The ten-day Ottawa Jazz Festival kicks off today with performances by two Nonesuch artists: Punch Brothers at Confederation Park, showcasing their new album Hell on Church Street, a reimagining of and homage to the late bluegrass great Tony Rice’s landmark solo album Church Street Blues; and Cécile McLorin Salvant at the National Arts Centre Studio, featuring her Nonesuch debut album Ghost Song. Emmylou Harris performs in Confederation Park as part of the festival this Tuesday.

Punch Brothers return south of the 49th parallel for a set at the Blue Ox Music Festival in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, on Saturday, which will be livestreamed via the festival’s YouTube channel.

John Adams's piano concerto Must the Devil Have All the Good Tunes? is being given its San Francisco premiere by the San Francisco Symphony with pianist Víkingur Ólafsson and conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen at Davies Symphony Hall last night, tonight, and Saturday. The piece was given its world premiere by the Los Angeles Philharonic, pianist Yuja Wang, and conductor Gustavo Dudamel in 2019; their Deutsche Grammophon recording is included in the forty-disc box set John Adams: Collected Works, due out on Nonesuch next Friday.

Joachim Cooder gives his second of two performances in Hawaii this week with a concert at Kahilu Theatre in Waimea, Hawaii, on Saturday. Cooder, who recently joined Ry Cooder and Taj Mahal in performing songs from their new album, GET ON BOARD, in San Francisco, announced several of his own shows in the coming months, in California, Georgia, and Tennessee.

Sam Gendel joins Sam Wilkes for a duo performance at the Tachikawa Stage Garden in Tokyo, Japan, on Sunday for Festival Fruezinho.

Rhiannon Giddens leads an instrument workshop and performs songs from her latest album, They’re Calling Me Home, with Francesco Turrisi, at Yellow Creek Park in Owensboro, Kentucky, tonight as part of ROMP Fest. The festival also includes songwriting workshops, clogging and flat-foot dancing, yoga, and bluegrass jamming 101. Attendees are encouraged to bring their instruments and jam throughout the weekend.

Hurray for the Riff Raff continues their tour as special guest of Bright Eyes with two shows out West this weekend: SOMA in San Diego, California tonight; and The Van Buren in Phoenix, Arizona, Saturday.

Lake Street Dive has three shows on the East Coast this weekend: at the Westville Music Bowl in New Haven tonight; at the Franklin County Fairgrounds in Greenfield, Massachusetts, on Saturday for Green River Festival, following fellow Nonesuch artist Molly Tuttle; and at the Count Basie Center for the Arts in Red Bank, New Jersey, on Sunday.

Brad Mehldau Trio—featuring Larry Grenadier on bass and Jeff Ballard on drums—performs at Barbican Hall in London tonight. The concert is part of a summer series celebrating 30 years of the EFG London Jazz Festival at the Barbican; the 30th festival takes place this November.

Molly Tuttle and her band Golden Highway return to the road to perform songs from their Nonesuch debut album, Crooked Tree, at three shows this weekend: at the Franklin County Fairgrounds in Greenfield, Massachusetts, for the Green River Festival today; at Caramoor in Katonah, New York, on Saturday, culminating the day’s Roots Music Festival; and at Natural Chimneys Park in Mount Solon, Virginia, for the Red Wing Roots Music Festival on Sunday.

Wilco, which recently kicked off a month-long European tour, performs tonight at the Auditorio Casa de la Cultura de Burjassot in Valencia, Spain, and at the Plaza de Toros Murcia in Murcia, Spain, on Saturday. The band shared a previously unreleased version of “Kamera,” from the upcoming super deluxe and deluxe editions of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, due September 16, earlier this week.

    Chris Thile and his fellow Punch Brothers have announced tapings for the second season of their musical variety show The Energy Curfew Music Hour at Audible's Minetta Lane Theatre in New York City, January 11 and 16 and February 13, 18, and 24; special guests to be announced. (The first season is available now on all major podcast platforms). They have also announced the third annual Chris Thile Acousticamp, returning to Asilomar Hotel in Pacific Grove, CA, June 27–July 1, with fellow instructor/collaborators Julian Lage, Michael Daves, Maddie Witler, and first time faculty Josh Ritter.
